Wait, so you can buy anything and everything, EXCEPT COMIC BOOKS!?!?Okay, now I'm just curious...but would you care to elaborate on this? I find that very strange...

I would like to hear why you have such strong feelings about the UAE ttb.
My older brother has been living in Dubai for the past 5 years and he and his wife love it.
I was there to visit him last year and I'm honestly amazed about how technologically advanced this Emirate is. It will put to shame any U.S. city in terms of architecture in my opinion.
For it being in the Middle-East, I have never felt safer in my life walking at around 2-3 in the morning almost everywhere in Dubai.
The only negative thing I could think of is the inferiority complex you can develop. 745's are seen like Civics. So much money and so many people living incredibely well...amazing.
Can't wait to be back in a couple of months!

I really don't know about the comic books - maybe people don't see much of a market for them here (for sure it would be a niche market) and a little bit of a licensing issue as well from what I can tell.
ttb, don't mean to sound like an a$$hole or anything, but you really should do some research before make such strong judgements.
But hey no worries - now you know! So we'll be seeing you soon!

100 years ago most of them were nomads roaming around picking up camel shit. When the oil runs out two things will happen. They will kill each other and go back to collecting camel shit.
What do you expect them to be, civilized and polite to outsiders?
Yeah -- that would seem like a rude thing to say if it was not true. Sad -- but there it is.

I've visited there a couple times in 1998 while in the service. It was one of my least favorite places to visit, mostly because of the heat and compared to some of the other places we visited, expensive. As for the people being rude, I never really had any problem with that except for one incident I remember clearly. Some friends and I went karting at an indoor race track. The business that ran the track arranged for a van to take us back to the hotel. My friend and I walked out first. With our dark hair and darker complexion, we could almost pass as locals. The other two guys with us couldn't. As soon as the van driver saw them, he literally peeled out and left us there. We had to call for a taxi.
If you are thinking about going there for vacation, I would say don't. I've been to many places while in the service; Canada, Mexico, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Australlia, Hong Kong, Guam, Singapore, Malaysia and Bahrain as well as the UAE. IMHO, only Bahrain was worse than the UAE.
