Default European Delivery?

Since we lost the Lexus the first of the year we are looking at a new car in the next few months, particularly the Volvo XC or Mercedes ML350. I've been looking into their European Delivery option- picking up the car at the Euro factory, tool around Europe for awhile and bring it home. So far it looks like you basically get a free airplane ticket for paying MSRP. The nice option is they take care of all permits, country road use tax, insurance and few other options. The downside is it may take awhile to get home.

I've been planning a Norway, Sweden, Finland, Eastern Europe trip anyway, and this would be a nice way to travel around.

I was wondering if anyone has done this, know someone who has, or any general thoughts on it?

I've known people who did it with both BMW and Mercedes, and they all loved it.

I don't think those cars are available in the United States.

As far as I know the ML isn't available for Euro Delivery so it leaves you with the option of the Volvo. http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container.jsp?/...&menu=3_0&sub=6

ML is made in Alabama. Probably not the luxurious vacation you were looking for.

Ahhh, Alabama in the summer...Skynard, PBR and Chicken Wings!

I thought the Mercedes site had the ML listed but maybe I was wrong about the ED. Thanks for clarifying though.

the last generation RS4 avant wasn't available in for the US market, although there are a fair number of gray market ones on the roads.

As for Euro delivery, if you have the time (and patience) it's well worth the trip, I've heard nothing but good things about it. I"m not sure how the Mercedes program is but the BMW program discounts the car significantly off MSRP on certain models (I believe M cars are not included in the discounted pricing)
