If they really hate you then perhaps your help in their time of need will mend some bridges and they will see you in a different light....wrt to your desire to be isolated from the rest of the world...I would think that (with all due respect to the USA) any country needs the world more than the world needs any particular nation.
Never works, buying someone.

The US could certaintly survive. Look at the rest of the world. Most nations do nothing compaired to us.

I hope there is a difference between helping someone and buying them....I think that more people appreciate The West's aid than you give credit for. Have you ever helped someone across the street or held a door open for a person (that is a rhetorical question)...acts of kindness can sometimes mend bridges or at least break down stereotypes and gerneralizations.

Perhaps the U.S. could go it alone...I doubt it, but anything is possible. It would mean a significant change of lifestyle since alot of the raw materials and cheap labour are imported from other parts of the planet....there would be more bicycles and fewer SUV's on the road!

Somehow Canada survives despite the fact that they donate way less in aid aroung the globe per year than the US.

Other nations think that we buy them. This isn't the first time we've given to Indonesia. WE've given to North Korea often also. The general resident doesn't get the $$$ and what they do get their goverments tend to take credit for despite the fact that it came from someone else.

I think that you are bang on...would you know roughly how much less we donate (some figures would be nice). Perhaps we don't have the means that the U.S. has...or maybe there are other reasons. I think we try to do our fair share but maybe we need to do better....although I'm not sure how much money/aid we donate has to do with our survival.

Back to the original question.
I dont feel bad at all. My situation is ok. I'm young, got a decent, steady job. I still strive to promote, succeed, and become comfortable in life. Myabe even start a family. Do I think of the less fortunate? Not really. Is that bad? Probably. Will I do something about it? Most likely not.

I don't think Canada owes the world a damn penny. Nether does the US. I think its obserd to get upset when someone gives $10 instead of 300 mill. Any contribution should be appreciated rather than scrutinized based on how much their GNP is.

He can't. He's stating the world as he wants it to be rather than how it is in reality.

"The goverment just gave 300 million that came out of our pockets!"

exceltoexcel, so you think the $.50 you gave is too much. PM me your address and I'll personally reimburse you. Maybe then you won't be so bitter.
