The summons is for Alameda Co., CA. For those of you keeping score at home, that's several hundred miles from <insert celebrity trial here>.
As per excuses. . . I had a friend who was registered Peace&Freedom (aka the new name of the Communist Party of America), and never got called for jury duty in WA. If you don't mind the weirdness, that's one way to get out (except in the Bay Area.
) Also, don't forget to name-drop Lyndon LaRouche during the interviews. . . that always throws counsel for an eye-roll.
