Fake Rolexes FTL!
I'll know it's a fake and I can't live with that feeling.
It's like buying a kit car. ferrari body, Feiro engine and chasis.
i mean, you could have a very nice kit car, but the idea of having a fake just doesn't sit right with me. But everyone has their likes and dislikes.
but if the put Breitling inside into a seiko, that's another story.

I'll probably never understand the "high-end" watch thing. I have a $37.00 Casio that I wear. Nice looking, and it's generally within 60 seconds of the actual time when I set it (every 6 months for DST). And for $37, I can afford to replace the batteries every 3-5 years for the rest of my life and still not come close to spending as much on it as many will spend just on the initial purchase price of a "high-end" watch. And if it gets lost or stolen, I'm only out 37 bucks.
So, what is it about these watches that motivates people to buy them? They don't have noticeably better timekeeping ability. Most of them don't look significantly better than a watch that can be had for a much cheaper price. Is it just the name? The ability to use it as a status symbol? Is it considered a "collectible", like stamps or coins? What's the draw?

I don't have any "high end" watches. I just don't see the reason to keep buying batteries and buying a new $37 Casio every few years just because. I do like having a precision piece of machinery on my wrist, however.
Obviously, people will spend THEIR money anyway they choose. And that's great. I just don't understand what makes a watch cost $17,000. Are you guys paying cash for these? Are these financed? And then some of you have a few of these, I need to step up my game!!
But I know I would just buy more cars instead!
What materials are used that make that a very expensive watch very expensive? How much are you paying to have Rolex (or Breitling, etc) stamped on it at this point?
I'm definitely not a watch guy. I spent $220 for a nice Seiko and feel bad that I never wear it. And it's obviously a POS watch in this discussion.

i agree .. to a certain extent. if you sole purpose of a wrist watch is to tell time, than a $20 timex (or a $37 casio) will do a better job of a $10k rolex (the timex or casio is more accurate, has more features, cheaper to maintain, etc)
but to me, higher end watches represent history of the company, the craftsmanship, attention to detail, material being used, a tiny machine that runs on spring and gears, which not only needs to work well, but also has to be decorated, etc.
i think that's nothing wrong with a $37 casio (i am a big casio fan myself, G-Shock and Pathfinder to be specific), but i also appreciate fine watches
so just be happy about what you wearing.
$1.6k for a fake? i rather spend $1k on a authentic watch and $600 on a hobby

Although I don't agree that all nice watches are either automatic or mechanical (read inaccurate) I say each to their own. If you can afford expensive watches and enjoy them then more power to you.
What I can't understand is ...what do people get out of wearing fakes? I think I would feel like a fake or a wanna-be if I was to wear fake Rolexes or other watches.
You get a certain sense of satisfaction from wearing a nice watch when it's the real thing. So long as you're not flashy or ostentatious about it.

I would never wear a watch that is studded with diamonds that is blingy as hell. 99% of my watches are stainless steel, and are VERY understated watches. If you dont know watches, you might think they are timex's. My Daytona, my Airking, GMT, Speedmaster, Jaeger Le Coultre, etc all look VERY understated, and unless you know watches well, youll never spot them. The only watch I guess MAY be called blingy is my SSteel Navitimer Heritage with a blue face. No real man would ever wear those idiot rapper diamond faced watches....no real man with taste anyway.
Oh, and the biggest negavite of wearing a replica......its a dumbass reason to get robbed/shot/stabbed for.

It's much better to get robbed/shot/stabbed for the real deal.
