Even if Sierra Nevada is a pale ale and not an IPA, I still say it's the best, though Saranac is good too.

I'm not a fan of the hefewiesen, but I have a buddy from oregon whos is all over it. I think his brand is Rogue's or somethign like that, it was good, but I believe its a microbrew, so really hard to come by.

apparently hef is pretty big in oregon.

When I was in Seattle last year I was surprised by all the beer choices especially that I could even get a Hefeweizen in the US (except for Sam Adams which is impossible to find anyway). Although I have no idea what is with all the citrus flavors or atleast having to put a piece of citrus in the beer before they serve it. Straight up me me thank you. For the guy that thought it tasted bad out of a bottle: Did you pour it into a glass before you drank it? Being able to smell the aroma of the beer makes quite a difference in the taste.

Sierra Nevada - I just spent a week there riding on horseback from Agnew Meadows over Donahue Pass to Tuolumne Meadows - is a Pale Ale, but not, I believe, an India Pale Ale.
Sierra Nevada is the gold standard of American Pale Ale. The funny thing about IPA is that is was invented by the British, and now is almost exclusively drunk by Americans!

Victory Hop Devil is my IPA of choice

Having this now:

Not too bad, bit bland.

One of my faves:

I had the dunkel/dark version and it was GREAT. Waiting to try this one later.

without a doubt, widmer hefeweizen. http://www.widmer.com/ Hard to find out here in the midwest, but this is the best. such a great summer beer. gotta try it if you get the opportunity

i was at a real nice steak place in new york, asked for a hefeweizen, and they thought i was making stuff up!
Widmer is a very polarizing beer. It doesn't taste like a traditional Bavarian style hefe, so some people dismiss it. I happen to like it a lot.

I would have to say without a doubt that Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA is my favorite, with Bridgeport being a close second. I definately prefer the American IPAs over the British ones.

BTW, the IPA in my screen name is for India Pale Ale.
