I've always had pretty good luck with not getting tickets, until the last two times I got pulled over. I got tickets for both.
First was in Indiana... I probably deserved it to some degree, but at the same time.... it was 4:00am, and I was going 90 in a 70. No one was on the road... I didn't realize that recently a law was passed allowing cops to be on the road WITHOUT ANY lights. He was in the middle... and he got me.

Second was in Ohio... almost every highway (at least it appears in central OH, Columbus area...) is 65. There was a two mile stretch that was 55. Well I was going 70 with the rest of traffic (in the middle of a bunch) when I go around a bend, and this guy leaps out into the left lane, raises his hand, and then points at me and flags me off. Well I try to be nice and comply, and pull over.

BOTH times, the cops did something I was not used to. Instead of coming up, and discussing the problem, etc... they came to my car immediately, and the only thing they said was "I'll be right back with your ticket."
I did my best to be polite. Questioned the second officer about when the speed limit dropped--as I was shocked to hear he was accusing me of going 70 in a 55... but to no avail. Is this some new, aggressive policy? Always, up until that point, officers have come up and addressed me, and we've spoken about the situation before making a decision as to how to proceed. I was rather annoyed at their roughness, while I was trying to be polite. Especially that second time, since after that last ticket I was trying my best to be on my best behavior... no more than 5 over and go with traffic. Just minding my own business, etc.

You know what would really suck. If the guy is telling the truth and then he still gets a ticket. OUCH!

Got stopped by the cops for blowing through a right turn on red. as usual, I got a warning.
IF you do the following, you'll usually get a warning too:

1. turn off engine
2. turn on interior light.
3. open driver window.
4. keep both hands on steering wheel.
5. wait for cop to approach vehicle.
6 never say "Is there a problem, officer?" (keep your mouth shut!)
7. Don't fumble around car looking for your registration (for all he knows, you're looking for your Glock 10mm)
8. Admit guilt to the infraction.

These simple steps have saved me 90% of the time from getting a ticket.
Ah, the Glock 20-series...becoming rare pieces.

Always roll down all of your windows. If you leave it cracked open, cops will tend to believe you may be hiding something (like the odor of alcohol or marijuana). Plus, you will be amazed at the difference of visibility of closed vs opened windows regardless if thew windows are tinted in certain lighting conditions. As to admitting guilt, well that is a toss up. Personally, if someone admits guilt, I usually cut them a warning (if theier behavior does not pose a danger to the public). You can say something like, "I am sorry officer, was a going fast? I apologize, I am pretty tired."
