1. turn off engine
2. turn on interior light.
3. open driver window.
4. keep both hands on steering wheel.
5. wait for cop to approach vehicle.
6 never say "Is there a problem, officer?" (keep your mouth shut!)

It's seldom that I get pulled over, but those times I've had, I just tell them that i'm a nurse and the cop 90% of the time lets me go. Having my stethoscope around the rear view mirror helps as well.
Leaving home at about 2AM Easter Sunday '06 to go back to Kansas, I got pulled over in town. The cop came up, saw all of my military gear in the backseat, and told me I had a tail light out, expired tags (had the new ones waiting for me in Kansas), and I was going 45 in a 35. The funny thing was I needed gas, so when he flashed his lights I just drove on down the road to the gas station and into my spot. He let me go with a warning describing all three things, and thought it was funny. I come from a small town with less than two dozen cops, so they let a lot slide.
About 9AM that same day, I was pulled over doing 94 in a 65 through Illinois on I-57.
Cop noticed I was military, thought it was awesome that we both wore the same rank, and asked me to come sit in his car with him. I sat up front and we bullshitted for a good 20 minutes before he told me he has to go back to work, and since he called me in I have to get a warning at the minimum. Got a warning for 71 in a 65 =) He told me to slow it down until I hit I-70, because they weren't doing speed traps there. Nice guy.
Lately in the S, I don't get pulled over. 87 in a 65 in Illinois again, and not having a rearview mirror, I have to check my sides to see if there is a cop. Naturally, my first reaction was to take out my cell and snap a picture. Look what I found last month!

He didn't pull me over, but I went to the right lane, let him pass, and got back behind him to continue my high-speed journey. Believe it or not, this happened twice in the same day, same state. 20+ over and I didn't get pulled over. I'm starting to think my S possesses an aura of calmness.

I was on my way back from houston on I-10 towards San Antonio, driving my supervisors chevy silverado, going about 90 in a 65 because I had just picked up a hood I bought for the S and was worried I would be late to a meeting with my commander. I was behind 2 sedans, who were going the same speed when we come over a hill where a state trooper was sitting on the side of the road.
Now IDK if it was the fact that I was in a truck, or the 'United States Air Force' and TSgt stickers my supervisor had on the back glass, but the cop got behind me, turned on his lights then went around me and flagged down the two sedans, leaving me scared shitless that I was going to get ANOTHER ticket.

Park car, turn off engine, turn off music, hands on the wheel.
Couldn't disagree more w/ #8. Never admit guilt. Let them say what they are going to say, sign what you need and move on. Handle it in court.
#3 "Open driver window". Disagree again. In fact I handle my business through a 4" crack of the window.
Too many variables. Bottom line, it depends on the Cop and it depends on the driver. Get the right combo your golden, get the wrong combo and your getting a ticket regardless.

NEVER admit guilt. In fact, don't even answer their questions directly.
