From what I remember from my dad's flying days, Heli's are 10 fold harder to fly (and more expensive) than Airplanes. But the tides could have changed in the past 10 years

i downloaded that simulator and it is pretty dang hard. i crashed it so many times.

would you recommend the plane that you bought? i was reading about it and it says only about 20 min of flight time with fully charged battery. i think that's too short for me. i am looking at gas engines now. is it harder to fly gas engines?

well this being my first plane i cant say from experience that gas is harder, but i could imagine they would be faster through the air. as far as the plane i got, id definitely reccomend it as a great trainer. most of the electric planes i looked at were around 15 minutes of flight time so this being 20 is good enough for me, just dont fly it in wind! even in light wind lol

Have you looked at RCGroups.com ? Lots of good info.
I started flying a few years ago, after flying real planes, jets and helis.
It was alot harder that I thought! Plus its windy here all the time.
I got a decent heli/plane simulator and it saved alot of crashing!!
After about 300 rc planes, I build alot of my own. Some that can be flown into a wall at cruze speed and survive. Most planes can be moded to fly better or longer. I usually take 6-8 planes with me and each flys 10-20 minutes, with 2 batts each. After 15-20 minutes I get board and want to fly something else. Butch (Butch777 on RCGroups)

I just finished a little foam ducted fan jet, the Squall HP.
Man these things are mega quick!

As for learning, if you want to improve try buddy-boxing with a pro.
Great way to build skills and confidence.
IME the single biggest reason people quit aero-modelling is the pain of constant repairs.

I love slope soaring, Hawaii and Socal would be heaven for me.
So, if its always windy there, get into what suits your location
Chase down the DVD - "Just Wanna Fly 2" from Radiocarbonart.com

Find a club, you will need to become an AMA member but you will really enjoy it, and they will have people there that can help you learn while also keeping you from crashing.

I have been flying for about 3 years. I learnt the hard way by putting most of money into the ground at 50 mph and heading back to the hobby shop to waste more $$$..lol.
Best advice is the realflight sim. Get very used to it so you can fly without thinking about it before you buy anything.
Then join a club, there's many great guys that will help you and save you lots of time and money.
I have been flying FPV for the last 1.5 years and can't get enough of it.
