The UPS driver decided it was a good idea to give my roommate's (at the time) german shepard and husky our packages to use as a chew toy. One boot had been chewed on by the german so I called customer service, the shoe box had been destroyed so they told me to place it in a new box and put it on the porch for pickup after the weekend on Monday. I got a new pair of the boots, and hopefully UPS had to pay for the replacement.
On the slip on the second day it said something like checked box for release, and around the side fence. I have never had a package stolen from the front porch, I have even had a Fedex driver leave me a package under my floormat at my new apartment without it being stolen. I don't know what makes a driver see large dogs approaching them in the backyard and not think twice about tossing (full on throwing it because my roomie's home beer kit was on its side with better packaging next to my destroyed shoe package) it over the fence. I would seriously prefer them to take it to the nearest UPS store if they need a signature and I'm not home.
A note on that website's customer service: the chatter for customer service is absolutely god awful and you never get a response to e-mails/customer service forms on the website, but I have no complaints since my issue was fixed working through UPS's customer service.
(It's always UPS, I'm surprised they dropped a VIS Mugen rep hardtop on my porch that required a signature without actually getting a signature allowing a huge package to sit outside for 3 hours or so before I got home. I've never had a single issue with Fedex that I've had with UPS)

As someone who works for FedEx, I can say without a doubt that no matter what your home situation is, what works for you doesnt work for everybody. Leaving a package on your unfenced front porch is fine with you, but I have had people who are FURIOUS for leaving a package on their front porch, and maybe your regular driver knows your preferred routine, but maybe he had the day off, and was being covered by someone thats never done that route before? When I first started doing residential, I wasnt sure what to do about locked fences with noone home and a big dog roaming the yard (usually acting like he wants to remove my head), so I would just leave a door tag saying that they could pick it up at the station. Well naturally, those people show up to the station LIVID that I didnt just leave the package inside the gate, and what kind of idiot thinks their frothing at the mouth rotterweiler would ever chew on anything? How dare I! So now Ive been doing residential for about three years now, leaving packages inside gates with all kinds of dogs, large and small, and I havent had ONE complaint about any chewed up boxes (and believe me, they would). If you know he's coming and you want it left somewhere specific, leave a note, people leave notes for me all the time. As far as the damage, that is terrible packaging on their part, from what I can see, theres no filler in that box, and any box with a lot of dead space inside is much much likelier to get crushed, thats just the nature of filling semi trucks/airplanes with hundreds of thousands of boxes and moving it across the country, some of the boxes will jostle and shift, and if the sharp edge of another box slides into your box and the only resistance is the thinnest of cardboards with no packing peanuts/airpillows/filler to support it, your box just isnt going to hold up.

Also, I have certain packages due by 10:30 and certain packages due by 3:00, most days Im FLYING to get done on time, many times finishing at quite literally 10:29 and 2:59 with seconds to spare, then I have to go do pickups at whatever businesses are in my area, if anyone expects me to take their undeliverable package to the nearest ups store/fedex office, even if its just 15 minutes away, that combined 30 minutes i have to take to go out of my area would be a HUGE bite out of my productivity, and is just not feasible for many drivers. If you want your things left at the ups store, get a PO box there, and have your things shipped there. Im in no way attacking you, Im just saying things usually arent as simple as us playing kickball with your packages in the back of the warehouse.

I much prefer Fedex, but that's based on just one of their employees customer service. I ordered wheels from a member on here and I was in class when he tried to deliver. He left the "sorry we missed you card" and put down his cell number. Met up with him about an hour later in a truck and picked my wheels up that day instead of them being lugged around for a whole other day to get damaged.

UPS beat up the Berk exhaust box when I got it, but the box wasn't as bad as OPs.

I was having trouble getting coilovers from Fedex, and the guy did the same for me. Called him up and met him on one of his other stops.

Honda for some reason uses boxes which are grossly oversized for the item being shipped. The front bumper cover comes in a box that would fill the bed of a standard pickup. The cover itself barely takes up 1/3 of the box, and with that much gap around it the box is easily pierced. Some of the blame laid on shippers is attributable to poor initial boxing/packaging starting with Honda.

I work for ups and I agree with what you say. I really hate when customers yell at me for a package thats half open or torn to shit. Ive seen boxes with scotch tape on them and sometimes only one strand of tape to keep 80lbs items from coming out. I try and be curtious and just give them steps on how to put a claim but some just go off on me. After 4 years of delivering its all a routine. Drop off and walk away. I also have my headphones around my.neck so I can drown away all their bullshit

Hey guys, sorry, forgot to update. A few things. No, I ordered this from H&A which I do not think is Majestic. I think it was Maita Honda (or a division of them) in CA. I shouldn't have been so quick to blame UPS because I went with the company that had a combination of the best price and lower shipping. I guess I should have known better. I've never had any problems with UPS in the past but I usually don't order things this "fragile".

College Hills Honda charges a big fee for shipping but they package the box inside another box with crazy amounts of packing materials. It's my fault for going the cheaper route. I inspected the lip after opening up the box and there were some scuffs and scratches on the driver's side corner. Took care of them EASILY with Meguiars M105 and installed the lip. It looks great. So maybe I dodged a bullet.
