Gay is the new black
I saw this slogan on a show lately, and I also believe its a new book "Gay is the new black". Seems that most news and tv talk shows say that the mormon church and blacks were the strongest NO voices in gay marriage.
As for blacks, is it true, in their majority, they are more homophobic than most races? Im curious to hear what others think here.
Was it true the mormon church spent over 20 million misleading voters in the prop 8 issue?

If one answers "no", does that mean that they didn't spend $20 million, or that they did spend $20 million, but didn't mislead the voters?
Are we to infer how you voted, based on this question?
I have just heard various things in the press, and im just stating what I have heard. I voted in favor of the gays, I think its homophobic and racist to not allow them to marry. I thought southern homophobie and biggotry was only in the south? But this isnt about me and my views, I just want others thoughts and the facts.

I think that it is fair to say that the overwhelming support of Blacks for proposition 8, which (there is no way around it) institutionalizes discrimination of a class of citizens, has caused a rift between Blacks and Gays. The Mormon church has been blamed for its role in organizing donations to the Yes on 8 campaign, with some people calling for the revocation of the Church's tax-exempt status. It was not just Mormon believers, though, who constituted the 52% majority coalition that passed prop 8.
I bet this topic will be closed almost immediately as too political, but I'd be interested in what other people think about this development, as well as the voter initiatives passed in other states.

I'm actually curious to hear from someone who voted Yes on 8 and who voted based on some belief other than the outright lies propagated by the Yes on 8 campaign, including that Gay marriage will be a mandated subject in elementary school, that churches will be forced to perform same-sex marriages or risk losing their tax-exempt status, that homosexuality will be taught to children as preferable to heterosexuality, or that gay couples teach their children to also be gay.
I liked the comment from Henry Rollins, when talking about straight men's reactions to lesbian women. Among others: "Oh, she just hasn't been with a real man yet." Wouldn't you be absolutely sure of your sexuality (assuming you're a straight man) if some gay man walked up to you and said "I could change you. You just haven't been with a real man yet."
When did you "choose" to be straight? I don't remember "choosing" to be straight, I just liked girls. Same as how some people didn't choose to be black or asian or latino; does the majority get to tell them they don't get to exercise the same rights and live with equal dignity? until the middle of the last century, some states DID outlaw interracial marriage. We live in a Constitutional Republic, not a classical majoritarian democracy.

Ya, most of the objections I have heard have been religious justifications or homophibic origins.
And as for choice, I believe that its all genetic, attraction is not a choice. Even for us who are straight, some girls we find hot and others we do not, its not a choice.
