But in my opinion because this life is so short compared to eternity, your attitude towards the Creator is more important than whether or not a gay couple should be allowed to publicly share a vow.

Im not a PHD psychologist, nor a pastor with a masters in theology. But this is my personal opinion on why God does the thing he does...
I hope this answers a few of your concerns BearNVA, which I doubt because you don't believe in God, but I just thought I'd share with you...
in my personal opinion...
We all must realize one thing... Gods wisdom is always above Mans. We don't always understand the things he does, and probably never will in our life time. But us Christians just learn to trust his decisions.
The world is a dreadful place, we must admit it. We must suffer through stress, poverty, depression, murder, rape, killings, kidnappings, etc (i can go on forever).
I do not want to disrespect anyone who had someone special pass away, but what if death isn't the worst thing that can happen? To man, death is the worst thing that can happen to one another, it seems when one dies, we get mad at God for not intervening. But what IF God rewarded him by taking him away from the dreadful world so he can live with him in heaven at the most perfect place in the world? What if in God's eyes, death is a reward, because your actually going into some place better, and its not the dreadful thing us men make it out to be?
And Christians have no physical proof of God, we believe in him through faith. The fact you want God to perform world wide miracles before you believe in him, is the exact thing he does not want to do. He wants you to believe in him through faith, if he wanted to be that obvious, he would create all man to believe in him period. But he made us to have our own free wills, to make our own decisions, the decision whether to believe in him through faith, and to simply mock him. It seems like you already made ur decision, and I accept that. Im not trying convert this into a religious arguement, but if you don't believe in God, then let it be just that. No need in mocking him and challenging the christian belief cuz all you will do is stimulate s2000 owning christians to intervene.
As for religion being a gang? Please don't be ridiculous. We all know gangs are all about violence. Basically all religions teach world wide peace, it is clearly written in all of the religion's holy books. but people just misinterpret it. that is all.
As for you saying "It kind of saddens me that people can't be different without being condemned or segregated."
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I honestly don't want gays to be segregated. I think it is truly wrong. All I am saying is to protect the term marriage. Make up a new term for all I care, and make sure gay couples benefit from all the laws and benefits and regular marriage benefits from, I dont see in any segregation with my plan?
I knows its long, and we have our differences, but just be open minded brother

This is the very problem with hot political and social items today. If you are "wrong" in your opinion, you get flamed. The OP posted "As for blacks, is it true, in their majority, they are more homophobic than most races?"
If I said yes, black people hate gays more than others, this would have been attacked. Whether I believe this or not.
We have a few people on here who are saying that their faith says homosexuality is wrong, and rather that saying, "ok, I respect your differences (as I am different from you)" they get flamed.
We have to understand that not everyone in this country is going to act/think/believe the same things. This is called diversity. But I have a problem with people having to be on the defensive when they state views that others disagree with. If you did not want to understand why people feel the way they do, then why ask?
This board is not going to change peoples faith. This board is not going to make a gay person straight. So lets stop the cheap shots, and try to get on with why people feel the way they do.

It's funny that you should mention the 14th amendment. Personally I think it's beyond clear that state discrimination against gays is exactly the kind of thing the 14th amendment was ratified to protect against. If you take a case like Loving v. Virgina and just replace any racial modifiers with one referring to sexual orientation, it reads the way I would expect the court to strike down state laws which discriminate against gays.
But I'm not convinced that Antonin Scalia, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, and Clarence Thomas would agree. That means only one other justice could create a slim majority and further entrench institutionalized discrimination of gays. Especially considering that the average margin of passage for these anti-gay statutes/amendments has been something north of 70%, up to 86 % in Mississippi, and considering that Congress has expressed its view in the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
I think that while President-Elect Obama said that he does not favor gay marriage, I sure hope that his judicial appointees will do their duty and "protect the constitution" by upholding the letter of the law. My sense is that Obama's statement is an act of political necessity, much the same way that the Governator vetoed legislation to allow gay marriage but then supported prop.8.
Sure they'll be criticized by the radio hawks as "activist judges" (such a misnomer...isn't Thomas the most "activist" in his wanton disregard for precedent and the concept of stare decisis?) but they have life tenure, and should do the right thing.
And anyone who thinks that people "choose" to be gay - it is beyond ludicrous that anyone would choose to be a part of a minority which, outside of some gay ghettos, is maligned and targeted for physical, social, and psychological violence, is marginalized in politics, and does not enjoy the equal protection of the law. You didn't choose to be straight, and they sure as hell didn't choose to be gay.
