Yep, the US is heading more in the totalitarian direction. "Government by the people, for the people"...uh, wait, let's change that to "Government of the people, by the ruling classes". Oh yeah, much better.
That's a monarchy, not communism.

And I hardly think traffic laws are a biggest sign of totalitarianism. Some of them are over the line probably, but I'd be far more worried about legislation in other areas of civic life.

Will this stand a court challenge? a test case is needed as I would think it would tossed out. The police are desperate to stop street racing, so they will try most anything. What scares me is " the appearance of guilt" because you have a after market exhaust, a CAI, and stickers on your car. when did this become unlawful? this is not what this country all about. you are innocent, until proven guilty in a court of law. This is so wrong. Who was behind this law? and when did it pass? If arnold did signed it, a democrat probley wrote the bill.

You make a very good and salient point. Stickers shouldn't make you guilty, nor should any other "visual cue". Assumption is the issue here from the citizen's viewpoint, for sure. Sports car owner might however argue that they've been targeted by Police for a long time as well, based merely on the color of their car, or the fact that it has a particular nameplate, or only two doors. So I think this affects a wider scope of drivers than we are discussing here.

Regarding you final statement, again, I think this isn't an issue of one party or the other. Traffic legislation is easy, and generates positive press for any politician on either "side of the aisle". It's one of those things that earns easy points. It's like a lay-up in basketball: ya get your fast break on and put it in, and if someone tries to stop you, they get the defensive foul, most of the time.

Traffic politics are in a realm completely separate from normal politics. Phoenix is a great case study city because of all the photo radar and speed zones that have been erected here, on top of the serious red light running and traffic fatality issues.

its an awesome mix of bullying, profiling, and ridiculous assumptions.

I'd like to see em treat domestic guys this way. Seriously, it may sound like a lame cry for the import, but how many mustangs/vettes/camaros etc do you see pulled over and harrassed this way? Even when they may have the same kind of modifications? very few in comparison.
Just thank the riceboys. All the guys with ridiculous neon lights, annoying ass exhausts, constantly trying to race anything with 4 wheels, and stealing everything else. Pretty safe to say the majority of them drive imports. What do you think the image is of someone who drives a modified import to someone outside the car world?

Stickers on a street car SHOULD allow a police officer to drag you out of the car and beat you with a rubber hose until you swear you will never ever EVER deface a car again, and then he should beat you for five more minutes like the complete taint-licker you are. Then you should have to stand at a major intersection, naked but covered with NAZZZ and MUGEN and AEM and fake carbon fiber stickers next to a sign that says "I'm impotent unless I'm thinking about a Skyline GT-R."

As another pointed out, it's idiot ricers that got you guys into this mess in the first place.

So true. A lifted F250 is much more dangerous to other motorists than a slammed Honda Civic.

Communism with a lower case "c", from what I understand, is an economic structure whereby individuals don't have private posessions. (Community, common ownership, etc.) If California went communist, they'd take away everybody's cars - instead each day you'd pick up a vehicle from the state-run lot every morning, then return it after you were done for the day. Except there'd be about 50 times the demand than supply so you have to be on a six month waiting list for a single day's use (unless you bribe the person in charge of the list, or are the neice/nephew of an influential government figure who could fire the person in charge of the list.) And all the vehicles would be pure crap because nobody cares enough about them to maintain them.

Not only that. Some of those lifted Trucks/SUVs love to tailgate.

I don't want to be that car under BIGFOOT...

The video doesn't work anymore, but like someone above mentioned, street racing has been a huge "problem" in California for a long time. Politicians, and the police get pestered by the angry parents of dead kids who got run over by two idiots who decided to race down main street, and by the parents of the street racing kids alike. Hell, I feel like pestering them when I see small-dicked morons racing in town, or on crowded freeways. If a cop sees a modified car, he probably thinks, "well, even though he isn't street racing right now, he probably will at some point, and since i probably won't be around to busy him then, i'll bust him now for have a stupid, loud, shitty sounding car!" It's the rice that usually get ****ed with -- both imported and domestic -- for this shit.

If you have an exhaust, that's all the probable cause they need to assume you may have other illegal modifications under the hood, so they can search your car and there isn't a god damn thing you can do about it. Plus they can give you a ticket for having too loud an exhaust even if you don't have any other mods.
