Default Got caught in a tornado in the s2k today!

first off i thank God and my S2000 for keeping me safe.

i was at work, there were tornado warnings in tampa (about 35 mins west of me) and said it was coming our way. our store closed and we were all sent home, it was just raining, nothing crazy.

i made it over a bridge and when i got to the bottom by a discount auto parts, the hail started. it was everywhere. then rain like i have never seen(and i have been through 3 hurricanes in 1 year here in fl). i had just made it through the light and then my ears started killing me. it literally felt like a had swam like 12 feet down under water.

i started to get freaked out, there was only one car around me that i could see and it pulled to the shoulder. by this time the wind started howling like nothing i have ever heard. sounded like i was surrounded by 9 semi's with turbos spooling like mad!

then my car stalled. sucked up water(engine bay is 100% stock). it was pitch damn black, only light was from my gauge cluster.

then the worst feeling i have ever felt. my car started vibrating.... like all over, and shuddering and i felt a little virtigo because i couldnt see a damn thing at all and my car was being moved laterally and all over.

then i really freaked. i started trying to start the car(keep in mind, in the pure flat open space of 6 lane hwy with only fields on each side). it took like 4 times and i was freakin out. all alone in the f@#kin black and being moved around with the convert top flapping like the underside of old ladies arms!!!

i finally got it started, it was sputtering, but shit, i was going to get the f@#k outta there. the tornado didnt come from behind me, it was on me and in front. so rather than sit there and get pwnd, i mashed it and literally drove blind untill i could see a down street light. took me like 4 mins to drive a mile. there were trees and shit tumbling over my car, parts of buildings from ho knows where.

when i came to the street light in the road, the rain had let up a shit ton and i could see that i was in the far far opposite lane in oncoming traffic!

so i continued on my path home. the lighter the rain got, the more destruction i saw. houses with missing roofs and insultion sticking out the top looking like a treasure troll!

big metal dumpsters from a grocery store ontop of a moving van. huge tree ripped out of the ground laying on a car. the roots were taller than the persons house. i had to drive over down power lines off-road around power poles and roofs laying n the street to get to my neighborhood.

windows were blown of houses, saw a basket ball hoop/setup blown through the window of a house. garbage can on top of a mans slylight on his house. shattered doors and windows all in the street. just absolute craziness. and my S2000 got me out of the tornado and home safe.

honestly, it was the scariest and most insane thing i have ever experienced. seeing it on tv and stuff isnt shit compared to being right in the middle of it.

nothing compared to the feeling of being 100% totally helpless and at someone/somethings mercy. i have never felt that way, and boy was it extreme. i thought i was going to meet Jesus today. no lie.

thank God i am alright.

holy shit.

Wow, crazy. I just saw a facebook post from a guy i know down there in FL, apparently it hit an airfield or something near him.

Crazy stuff. Glad you made it out safely, you got very very lucky... or very very unlucky... depending on how you look at it.

Glad you're OK. I spent a lot of time in Lakeland when I was with Jacobs Engineering.

thanks man. i appreciate the concern from the fellow s2k owners.

i will post pics of any noted damage to the car when the rest of the storm passes. i know i rode over and through all sorts of trees and shrapnel.
hopefully its minimal.

I meant pics of the car afterwards (I assume it had some damage?) or damage on your street or something like that. Obviously, you weren't about to take pictures while you were in the middle of a tornado...
