Default Had LASIK done

Well, after 2 years of thinking about it, I finally had it done last Friday. My perscriptions were -3.5 left and -3.25 right. Basically, if it wasn't right in front of my face, I couldn't see it. Two days before the procedure, I was riding in a car with a co-worker and took off my glasses. I couldn't read ANY signs. Not one. The huge green and blue signs were just big green and blue blobs.

Anyway... The whole procedure, from entering to leaving the Doctor's office, was about 3 1/2 hours. I Went to Brint Daubert Vision Correction in West Palm Beach (recently featured on Extreme Makeover). They are one of 4 clinics in the country currently using the newest machines. Most of the time is just sitting around, getting several pre-op things done; photos of your eyes, corneal deapth measurements, final/detailed eye exam and perscription check, and corneal topography. The procedure took about 10 minutes/eye. No pain, but it smells awful.

Results. You can see immediately after the procedure is done, albeit with a LOT of haze. I left the office at 4pm. Went home, took a nap, and woke up at 8pm with almost perfect vision, still a bit hazey. Next day, went in for post-op checkup at 10am, both eyes tested at 20/15. And I could actually read most of the letters at 20/10, but I missed a couple. So I officially got a 20/15 rating just 16hrs after the surgury.

I see better now than I did with my contacts in. Amazing. Night vision is crisp and clear, no spots. I do see a very slight starburst effect around bright lights at night (like headlights), but it's just a couple little rays around the light, barely noticable. The doctors said to expect that to go away with a couple months. Anyway, it's like a whole new life. Best money I ever spent. BTW, the procedure was $4800, but I have VSP (vision insurance thru work), and they covered $1000. Covers the procedure, all the perscription eye drops, all the post-op visits, and 1 redo if they have to make any corrections (up to 1 year).

Brint is a pretty good surgeon. Heard a couple of his talks.

Also, you're pretty knowlegible about the ophtho procedures.

Yeah, it's very hard to get a procedure done by Dr. Brint. He's only in this office in January, and then it's with a bunch of other doctors that he's instructing. They said he's been in Europe/Asia for two months lecturing and teaching. Dr. Daubert did mine. It's very reassuring when you keep hearing the Doc say, "Wow, look at that. Perfect," all thru the procedure.

He even found two small points of astigmetism (sp??) in my right eye and had those corrected? removed? whichever. I don't actually know all that much as a patient, but the technicians did an outstanding job of explaining everything they were doing.

They told me repeatedly that you need a stable perscription for a few years to be considered a good candidate. My eyes have been exactly the same since 7th grade, terrible. I have a fried that did LASIK in 2000, maybe late 1999. His eyes are holding steading at 20/15.

It holds up good. I had mine in Aug 99 and I am still 20/20.
I know a lot of people get better than 20/20 with Lasik but mine didn't. Doctor said it was not unusual so I left it at that.

I had some glare on my left eye at night for about 1.5 years but it is gone now. BTW I had the same prescription for 10 years before I had LASIK.

I have the video too... but most people find it pretty gross. I watch it every year on the anniversary and it still gives me the creeps...:-)
