My dad was gonna have this done, but they said it wouldn't help him. He has really bad vision and at night he can't drive at all cause he sees everything closer than they actually are. It sucks driving with him at night cause of it, and he tends to scream or get angry cause to him it seems like the car is within a short distance when it is actually far away. The doc gave him some dark glasses cover to use at night but they don't really work. Hopefully they'll get something to fix him soon.

Good to hear you're procedure went well.

$4800!!! us!!!

I had PRK done here in Montreal in '98 for $4000 cdn. My vision is 20/20, but I do have a bit of the dry-eye...

You can have Lasik done in Montreal for <1000 $cdn. With very good, reputable doctors who have done countless thousands of procedures...

Take a week off, visit Montreal, stay in a great hotel, eat at the best restaurants, get Lasik'ed and still have a grand or so left over.

Those are actually pretty tame compared to what was listed on the consent form. It was a few months ago when I did all the research and questions, but if I remember correctly, the new machine is for more acurate for several reasons. Somebody out there probably knows the correct numbers, but the laser tracking program does 10x the number of tracking checks per second than the old one. So problems from flinching are pretty much illiminated. If you do flinch, the tracking programs stops the laser so fast that it doesn't make an error. Then it restarts right were it left off.

And the topography finds imperfections in the cornea and adjusts the laser pattern accordingly. The older machines either didn't do this, or didn't do it as well. So if you don't have a perfect cornea, the laser adusts the cuts so you don't get spots, etc. The clinic told me they have fewer than 1% of patients reports problems like those in the USA today clip.

Anyway, I'm not sure that's all 100% correct, but that's how I remember what I read and what I was told.

The technicians also told me the new machine can correct for perscriptions up to -15. As bad as my eyes were at -3.5, they said I was on the easy end of the scale.

Lasik is a 'cosmetic' procedute, therefore it is not covered by Health care.

The clinics advertise the 'latest' machines and software... With a little research I think you could find the same equipment. But not Dr. Brint.

I agree with you concerns about the lowest bidder. That is why you should always research before...

Ciao.

Congrats on your vision!

I've been a patient counselor for several years now, and it's always great to be able to share in the excitement of someone whose just experienced the freedom from corrective lenses.

YOU CAN HAVE BOTH (Cheap and Experienced)!

Little known fact is that in Colombia (South America) live the most experienced LASIK and PRK surgeons in the world.

I had mine done there (I was raised there) and even got the 'family discount' (2 or more blood relatives). At a cost of $800 for BOTH eyes.

BTW I just found that link to Lasik eyes.com, my lasik surgery was done by another of Dr Barraquer's pupils.

During the procedure, does any surgical tools touch the eye? Can anyone give me more information on what goes on during the LASIK surgery? A website, link, etc?

Glad to hear you're happy with it.

I really want to get this done, but I'm only 19... I figured I should wait a few more years, as I've heard it can be a waste of money at my age.

night driving difficulties in older folks are often due to cataracts. What eye doctor saw him? Optometrist or ophthalmologist? Go see an ophthalmologist if possible.
Wearing darkglasses for night driving? Sounds pretty dangerous to me..
If he has cataracts, they can be removed and he wouldn't have to have LASIK afterward
