All I know is, this stupid hi-def technology has made my DVD collection obsolete.

 

Forgot to throw in but both speilberg and michael bay "left" paramount pictures due to their "loyalty" to HD DVD. FWIW, they were their top directors and unfortunatly to the public, there will be no transformers 2 because of this

 

Only difference in 1080i and 1080p is on 1080i in very fast moving scenes (for ex. sports) you can start to see the interlacing lines where as on 1080p you won't be able to catch that. Thats about it.

 

To answer the question there are dual format HD DVD/Bluray players out there. LG makes one thats around 900-1000. Also, Sony and Samsung are releasing some soon I believe. Its not the cheapest, but surely the safest way to go.

 

um what? Transformers 2 already has the green light and reports are saying Paramount Pictures has set June 29th 2009 as the official release date. Bay retracted his statement about the whole paramount HD-dvd movement like a day or two later.. money can do wonders. Bay hasn't signed on to T2 yet as far as I know, but this wouldn't stop the movie from being made.

I love anything in High Definition. Hopefully, everything we watch will be in HD by February 2009. I look forward to the day where I am not channel surfing for HD content.

1080i HDTV CAN be properly deinterlaced to 1080p with no artifacts (it is NOT a complex process) as each frame of the source of the HDTV signal is displayed twice. You have the even frame, then look-ahead to the odd, combine them (they are the same frame of the source so there's no motion difference) and display the "whole" frame twice for a 60fps 1080p signal.

Unfortunately most HDTV's are EXTREMELY weak with video processing so they can't do this. I see flat panels all the time whose HD picture is just GOD AWEFUL; I don't see why anyone would even buy them...but they DO! Fortunately my SXRD set does a competent job deinterlacing but most (especially value priced) sets do not.

 

correct. LG has one now, but it is missing too many features on both formats.

Samsung has the U5000 coming out this month for $799 (seen that online) and it has basically any feature you want. It is both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD logo compliant and has Silicon Optix HQV video processing!! That is going to be THE player to get.

LG will have "take 2" of their combo player soon, too. Denon is said to be working on one as well.

On another note, Alpine should be out with MOBILE HD-DVD players very soon!

 

Uhhhhmmm....no. They didn't leave Paramount/Dreamworks, and Bay is tapped to direct the sequel. He wasn't sure at first, and if he was going to do it, then he'd want to take a break for a couple years before jumping into it. Rumours here at work is that he's ready to go ahead and direct the sequel.

Shaya LeBeouf or whatever his name is, has already rejoined the cast and they already have a release date. I believe it was Mar 28, 2009.
