They are still the reference for almost all comparisons and considered to be either the best or one of the two best screens out there.
Of course -- if you did in fact have one you got rid of it after a year as they debuted in 2001.
My plasma and LCD's in comparison are worse -- about on average with the 27" toshiba in the garage.

Bought it in Aug 2003, sold it cheap to a friend May 2004. Friend is still enjoying it tho...
So let's just say you like component, while most other professionals and audio/video-philes go with HDMI for it's obvious benefits.
I've recently asked this question to a local high-end audio/video professional in my area who my family has been friends with for over 20 years. Their opionion was 'take your pick.' And that neither was better than the other in terms of picture quality.
And these people sell and install systems costing over $100k for 'home-users'. These are not your typical pieces of crap systems/brands you buy from circuit city and best buy. If you want some examples of high-end stuff, check out audiophile magazine.
As previously mentioned, if you really want to be anal about this, it is a better idea to compare the hardware you are connecting as well as the cables. The cables are only as good as the cable-box/tv will allow.
And as for Monster cable being a crappy brand--I agree its overpriced, but hey if you think their stuff is bad at circuit city, then you should check out their high-end stuff. Not to mention that other cable-making companies have cables that cost as high as $500 a meter and higher!
