HDTV Question!
I've always heard 2006 was the cut-off for all broadcast stations. I think there is a catch in there about this though. It has to do with market penetration of HDTVs. If market penetration is not sufficient enough then stations can get an extension. I see that as unlikely though. HDTVs are selling very well now.
I've been lovin' hdtv for a year now, - i got a toshiba 40h80 hdtv and a toshiba dst 1000 receiver.
if you're going to go in - still get one with a seperate TV tuner - as you'll like the flexibility of not being locked into a specific brand in the future.
as far as it not being standardized - well the only major debate is between 720p or 1080i - and either way your tv will receive either signal and your tuner will convert to one or the other, so watch some HD!!!!

I just got the 51" version of that set a couple of weeks ago. I love it. I agree, it is not too early to get an HDTV display device. The confusion about standards not being decided has been gone over and over again. RodneyK is right about that.
You asked about digital cable...I converted from analog cable to digital cable in anticipation of this set arriving. I am pleased with the digital vs. analog. There are some networks that still suck, but there always will be. The big ones have a nice picture, but the obscure or lower bidget networks definately have a poorer signal. I do not know if this is due to the actual source or compression by the carrier.
BTW - GT3 is awesome on a large widescreen......
