Default HELP!

I bought my car from Scott Honda in West Chester, it was certified pre-owned. Whoever had the car before me got an aftermarket head unit and door speakers put in. They put a factory head unit in the car before I bought it, but left the speakers. Now, I am having trouble with my passanger side door lock. It will not open when hitting the key pad unless you pull the handle right away, if you unlock the car, and wait 5 seconds, the passenger side door will not unlock. They told me it's because whoever put the speakers in, put the door panel on wrong, and caused some brace to brake. And now, all of a sudden, it decides to interefere with the door lock.

So I asked if it was covered under warranty, and they said no. They said I will have to pay $92 to fix it. Even though I bought the car with a warranty, it doesn't cover the aftermarket speakers. Noone there had ever told me those speakers and anything that goes wrong as a result of those speakers, is not covered. I just told the guy to check again, and try and get it fixed under warranty. Because I bought the car like that, and I feel as though it should be covered under warranty.

Am I wrong? What should I do? Because an interior piece was fading, and they said that can't be replaced under warranty, and I bitched at them, and they ended up doing it for free. So, are they trying to screw me?

Thanks.

Seems to me you have an ethical leg to stand on by pushing the CPO nature of the car, even if the letter of the law may be on their side. They sold it to you that way so they should take the responsibility. Maybe escalate the complaint to Honda regional management?

I've already been in touch with Honda of America about another unrelated matter. So when he calls back, I'll let him know they should take responsibility. I really have no problem paying the $92, but not when I shouldn't have too. If they give me the same story when they call me back, I'll ask to speak directly with Greg. Their service Manager.

If you bought the car CPO then this should have been checked - you could call in to question their CPO tests and if they are adhering to Honda's rules, maybe threaten to report them if they don't fix the matter.

What are Honda's rules? He told me they don't take the door cards off, before they mark a car as CPO. I asked him why they didn't check since the speakers were aftermarket. He didn't seem to have an answer.

I know exactly whats causing this problem. You need to take off the door panel, and realign the door lock trim (the black trim around the door handle. Look in the electronics section FAQ for instructions on removing the door panel. Its is a common problem, and easy to fix.

Thanks buddy, but they took care of it for free.

It's amazing what you can accomplish with a little verbal lashing.
