all of a sudden cutting your food intake by 1/2 is not a good idea. just like eveything else, you have to gradually work your way there. start by cutting your meals by 1/8 to 1/4 or less. give it a few days, and once your body is used to that, then gradually cut a bit more, but i still wouldn't cut it more than by 1/3. occassionally feeling hungry is inevitable. you are consuming less calories than your body wants and that is why you're feeling hungry, but make sure the intake is not too low cuz you still want to be able to consume enough calories for your basic metabolic functions. also, all of a sudden shocking your body by "starving" is bad because when that happens, your body will try to convert most of the food you consume into fat just to "prepare" for the next episode of starvation. the key to losing weight is patience. make the goal of losing your weight over a couple of months and not a couple of weeks. you want to lose your fat, but you don't want to screw up your metabolic system in the process. also, i don't recommend chewing gum to counter hunger. you are just fooling your body into thinking that you are feeding it. instead, what you can do is that you can turn your current 3 meals a day into 6 small meals a day. this way, you will constantly have some food in your stomach which will reduce your episodes of hunger pangs. another thing you can do is introduce low calorie snacks between meals, such as a fruit and vegetable. again, the purpose of this is to try to constantly have something in your stomach so that you will reduce your feeling of hunger. you may think that introducing more food into your diet is counterproductive, but as long as your total daily calorie consumption is less than what it was before, then you are going in the right direction.

Easiest lifestyle change.

find a girl friend or a girlfriend, or someone you want to be either or both.

make said girl your morning walking partner. wake up 1/2 hour earlier each morning and walk for 20-30 min. this gets you up, starts your metabolism, boosts it more because you are in the presence of a nice female, gives you a nice conversation each day and gets you a possible hookup to burn even more calories.

when you get home, drink a protein shake, or just avoid carbs!

rest of day as normal, you can workout if you want to do it right.

afternoon to late evening, walk again for 15-20 min.

this should help you quite a bit at your age.

i also recommend alot of water and good sources of fiber, no white breads.

don't just eat less, eat healthier. Also, drink some water! Chances are pretty high that you aren't drinking enough... that should help out with the hunger.

Like others have said, be careful not to shock your body... and if you eat less during those meals you are going to need more than three meals a day to keep from feeling like your stomach is gonna eat your shirt ;-)

I hear weed makes your metabolism rise, which is why you get so hungry. If you can abstain from devouring your moms pantry then perhaps this is the most promising solution

hehe
thats interesting - the only thing is that its eff'ing impossible not to eat when you're high

6'2" and 170 is really skinny, if you notice you have fat that means you have nearly NO lean body mass, work on gaining some muscle... muscle burns more calories at rest so it should take care of you all day long... a good strong lean build at 6'2" is generally around 190+lbs

Update:

I weighed in at 181 today. I'm no longer feeling hungry between meals, even though I'm cutting my calorie intake by up to 1/4. I'm going to be keeping up the plan.
