No, Movado doesn't make their own movements. Not a big deal, though. At your price point you won't get more than a modified mass-produced movement.

Seriously, based on the frequency of wrist time, I would stay away from an automatic. It just won't be ready to wear when you are ready to wear it. Either that, or you will need to get a winder.

Personally, I'm a big fan of manual wind. I wind them in the morning and they are always ready for wrist time. I have two autos, one is always on the winder and I rarely wear it, and the other is always dead and I rarely wear it.

Although not as dressy as the Movado, take a look at Ball. Lots of history with some unique features. With a discount, they have few in your price range.

For a clean military-style manual wind, take a look at Madison. I have one and love it.

These guys have tons of watches in your price range. Most with ETA movements.

I'm personally a big fan of Seiko watches - stylish and highly reliable. My current watch is the Seiko Sportura SLQ007, but which isn't what the OP is looking for since it has a chronograph and slightly above the desired price range. Regardless, I would highly recommend you take a look at their line of watches for a solid well-made timepiece.

Well, the hookup Nate gave me had some amazing deals. Unfortunatly, they didn't have the specific models I wanted in stock, and wouldn't offer me as great of price on special orders. So...

Has anyone ever used Authenticwatches.com? Am I pretty safe in assuming they will send me the real thing? I'm not SO worried about warranty. I figure, I'll either save $200 now and maybe have to pay for a repair, or I'll pay $200 out the door for a warranty. Thoughts?

Wait... what? They can't give you a good deal on a special order?!?! Even if you leave a deposit???

That sucks... sorry about that. I'd try to offer to leave a deposit. If they can do good deals on other watches, they should be able to offer good prices on special orders as well (in theory).

Nate,

I might end up trying that. I really was set on the Artelier Date, but they only had the pointer date in stock. They gave me a deal I was very happy with on that piece, but it's actually more expensive and not quite the look I wanted. I'd be willing to pay up-front in cash. I probably should have indicated that...

I have tomorrow off, might go down there and see if I can finally make a deal.
