Default Help needed badly. Lost all my floppy files!

I have spent approx 24 hours on a uni project that has to be handed in tomorrow (tuesday).
I have done 90% of the project at work via Windows XP Pro and microsoft works. Im now at home trying to print out all my work, but the computer will not allow me to open my files. It says that the disk needs to be formatted, yet it says it will format it for me, but i will lose all my work!

Can anyone guide me here, asap?

You're probably out of luck - normally that message means the disk was damaged. You could test the disk in a friend/neighbors computer to confirm this.

Yeah try it on another computer. The alignment of the head in different floppy drives can vary slightly and sometimes a disk that won't work in one computer will work in another. It's a longshot but worth trying.

It happens to me all the time. Use it on another computer and see if it works.

If you don't have any luck with your disk you might like to try the PC Inspector File Recovery software from here (it's free):

http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm

It might be enough to get your data back.

I've been in your exact situation twice and was forced to start again with what I had backed up. Now I have a USB card and I dont touch floppy disks. They are just too unreliable and you can get a pen disk for next to nothing that stores more than you would need even for powerpoint presentations.

Good luck with it

Thanks loads for your guidance. Thankfully, It worked on a friends computer. It was the fourth computer that i tried! Why it worked on this one and not the others i don't know. Needless to say i was very happy and have just this hour invested in a USB memory stick!
