Default Help! What TV to buy?

My Sony Bravia KDL-40XBR that I've owned since 10/2006 is on it's way out. I'd like to get something in the 50" range and around $1000.
*240Hz refresh would be nice.
*Don't want 3D
Is 4K worth it right now? It doesn't seem like there's not a lot of 4K content.
Are the Samsung curved screens more than a gimmick?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that the processor that converts HD images to 4K HD still makes a 4K TV worthwhile. My eyes say this is true but you'd have to go to Bestbuy or something to convince of it yourself though. It is also my understanding that Sony's conversion processing is superior to Samsung's.

In my eyes, Samsung's TV's exaggerates colors a lot. It's catchy but some may argue it doesn't look "natural."

Curved TV might be worth it if you go big (more than 64 in) with 50 in, I'd skip it.

After some research, I've recently decided to wait another year and grab one of the Sony XBR900 series.

What symptoms the TV having? You prolly already tried this, but in case not... turn TV off. Unplug. Let sit a minute. Plug back in. Turn on. This resets some of the options, sometimes fixing glitches. Be sure all HDMI and other cables are good. Lot of receptions issues are interconnect related. Do same with cable box or whatever you are hooked to. Just to rule-out other issues, versus solely TV problems.

I have a 5-year old 55" Bravia. Great TV. No problems. At least not with TV. Many issues throughout the years with the cable box and provider.

Anyhow, good luck!

4k is not as pricey as it used to be. but i see more discounts looming. if you really want to get a 4k now, i would bite the bullet and get one. it also depends on what cable/satellite provider you have. i may just snatch up curved 4k around the december holiday sales if the price and unit is right.

i have DirecTV.. although there are TV ads saying they have 4k, i believe its only a selected few PPV channels..the major networks should be broadcasting in 4k by fall? or end of year, according to rep i spoke with at DTV.

I have three or four Samsung TVs. One is plasma, the others are LED. HD is good enough for me now.

60" should be in the $1000 range, the prices drop constantly.

Some cable services, like COX are moving to pure digital and may need a converter box regardless of premium channels. I've nearly given up on broadcast TV and features like NetFlix and YouTube are on the "smart TVs."
