Highway Cameras, do they record accidents?
I was involved in a accident early Sunday morning and wrecked my s2000, it is more than likely totaled. My question is this, do the traffic cameras on i-85, between shallowford and chamblee tucker, or any of the cameras on the highway for that matter, recorded? The reason i ask is because i did not actually see what car hit me as it was dark and was not paying attention to what was behind me, i was hit lost control of the car, hit the car next to me and was sent 360 all over the highway along with the car next to me, causing a pile up. I am luckily without major injury. Right now i do not even know if the car that hit me was still at the scene because the cops came to my house and gave me a ticket for following to close says that i hit the car that was next to me in the rear, which is ridiculous as i was on next to that car. Sorry for the ramble but do the cameras record, anyone with experience and know any cops and just know, any help would help as i get an lawyer and try yo figure out how i can fight this ticket and best course of action. Thanks.
Depends on what you said to the cops, hopefully you didnt say anything. But im sure they played the spin doctor games with you into admission of guilt for the accident.... this is why insurance companies suggest that you do not speak to the police in the scene of an accident.
Theres a 99% chance that those cameras DO NOT record those things, they are usually just for traffic flow stations to monitor the congestion.
A lawyer can help you greatly if you did not speak to the fuzz.

Glad to hear that your alright!!!
I think some camera's keep recordings for a period of time (24 - 48 hours
) most are for traffic flow
Contact your DOT to ask about their camera's.
Get a lawyer!

As much of a mess as there has been in Atlanta over the last week you may have a decent chance of getting out of this one. I doubt most anyone on s2ki will know anything about the cameras in Atlanta. I'd start with the police and the GA DOT. Not sure if anyone will be too interested in helping though due to all the flooding...
Good luck!

it is not that i was not paying attention, i just didn't really notice what kind of car it was on my rear that hit me, when i was hit, car started to fishtail and i couldn't control the car, i was to busy trying to control the car to look back.
I got the accident report today. COMPLETELY WRONG. i was taken to the hospital after the accident and the cop did not get my report on the accident. The report is wrong.
I going to go talk to a lawyer today.
I did not tell the cops my side of the story yet as i was taken to the hospital and the cop never came to get my report.

Our state has a law that was promoted by our DOT that they do not have to provide any traffic cam footage to anybody. They have this because otherwise they would have to employ a dozen people to retrieve footage for someone after every accident. So you might be out of luck.
I reread your post. I missed where you were first hit by another car the first time I read it. I'm glad to hear you are okay. I hope they found the original car that caused the accident. Maybe the car you ended up hitting saw it?
