a new car doesn't make me happy, because i was happy anyway.
True...Whatever your core philosophy is (optimistic or pessimistic) that really is the basis for "happiness" and how you cope with bumps in the road.

There are also factors like resilience and chemical imbalances that result in mental illness, but that's a whole other topic...

a bit on a side note but as one who doesn't have much free time, I <3 yoga for the hour of stretching, calm breathing and relaxation it gives me an excuse to enjoy. I wouldn't knock it until you try it as I always sleep better after doing yoga and find myself feeling more invigorated when I am awake.

<3 yoga now and I used to find it cheesy and corny and stupid.

I'm a glass half-full person.

What always makes me happy is my mom's cooking and my bed's at home. That, and relaxing with my old buddies. They're the bomb

i totally envy his carefree "just let it slide," "don't let it bother you..." attitude.

do you see? happiness is a function of cause and effect for you....you're only happy when you're not sad, or you have to create happiness.
everyone is saying the glass is either half full or half empty... it isn't that simple. i've actually said before myself that i'm a positive/optimistic person, but then again i can be a really negative person. i think what it comes down to is that i'm very influenced by my surroundings. thus, the seasonal affective disorder. if i have a good day i'm intensely happy, if i have a bad day i take it really seriously. i'm a sensitive person and i have intense reactions to things that are going on around me. i am by no means saying that my life is terrible... i definitely don't expect anyone to feel sorry for me. (i was actually just having a conversation with my boyfriend last night about how i feel lucky cause i can't think back on any instance in my life where i've really wanted something but didn't eventually end up getting it.) I LIKE MY LIFE. but people piss me off sometimes... or sometimes i get depressed and emotional. it happens.

but who is somebody like "PLYRS" to come along and say... "that's not a good way to make yourself happy." eff that.

apparently "looking to my car for happiness" is a bad thing. first of all, i don't DEPEND on my car for happiness, but it's something i enjoy in my life. and you're one to effing talk. you drive an M3, you can't honestly tell me that you don't derive some sort of enjoyment out of your car... otherwise i'd tell you that you're a frick'n idiot for wasting your money on a BMW you don't enjoy and to save yourself some $krill and buy a chevy cavalier.

drinking... lots of people have a drink every now and then to let loose. we already discussed this at length in another thread. i'm 20 yrs. old and i like to drink and party with my friends on the weekend; i'm certainly not the only 20 yr. old of my kind.

yes, i have a psychiatrist. your point? you're some dude on the internet and you have absolutely no right to be the judge of whether or not i actually need a psychiatrist.

you're actually being critical of me for saying that eating makes me happy? FOOD TASTES GOOD AND IS FUN TO EAT. +eating is also associated with positive social interactions, such as going out to eat with friends & family, making dinner with family. 'nuff said.

who doesn't rely on certain people in their lives to get them through bad days...? you're being critical of the fact that i use my family for support...? i don't RELY on other people to make me happy, but like my car, my friends and family are a part of my life that i enjoy. they help keep me happy... which is what this thread was about. no?

a lot of people's worries preoccupy them. and you're not my psychiatrist (thank god).

P.S. weren't you the one who claimed you could never survive on making less than $100,000 a year? so much for "inner well-being." you're a self righteous idiot. you make bold claims and can be extremely critical, yet i've never once seen you back up any of your claims or justify any of your criticism with any real logic or rationale. it's just "blah blah blah blah BLAH BLAH blah BLAH" really loud, out your ass, all the time.

"you're only happy when you're not sad."

very profound.
