If you think there's a risk of divorce, just don't bother getting married.
Date for a while, sure, but then move on.
(Says a guy who's engaged.)

(1) go marry somebody who has $1M
(2) devorce
(3) repeat and add a zero at the end of the number

I don't know how many women who've been through a devorce (whatever that is) have a $1M. Many, not all, women who have $1M or more understand the liabilities (and benefits) of divorce quite well. . . just sayin'.

I dunno how it is in the great white north, but here in AMERICUH you get put in jail for that. I filed a few SAR's in my banking days. One when I watched a guy ask to open a safe deposit box, plastic bag FULL of cash (at least 10-20k), and close it. I said to myself "are you fawking serious?"
is this true. you'll go to jail for having big sums of cash off the radar

come on man, it's only 100k, you'll spent a third of that on your wedding, then you'll need a down payment on a house, a new car for her, plenty of kids clothing when she pops one out...it isn't going to last long.

yes, it has become a crime to carry a large amount of cash, the banks want you to use their plastic charge cards for everything so they get some of it.

That's $100K in the bank RIGHT NOW. . . accruing interest. . .

If it was just a case of $100K, you'd almost have half a leg to stand on. . . but think about this: sight unseen, she's entitled to half (or more, depending on the state) of EVERYTHING. . .

I had to explain this to my ex-fiancee as we were getting serious -

IRA
Savings on hand (she had saved nothing)
401K (she had saved nothing)
Stock Grant from my employer
Employee Stock Purchase program
Condo Equity (and I live in an expensive part of the world)

She divorces me within a year or two. . . her half would come out to ~$250K (would have been more when we were dating). Not bad for a year's work.

Get a pre-nup.

The IRS doesn't care which mattress you put it under. . . it's always been a crime to not REPORT the income.

If it falls off the back of the truck, that's a whole 'nuther issue.
