Humor for you...at my expense
Edited on 08/23/03 to now add the name of swindling owner that caused me enough anxiety (and now $410) to take the time to post this information below to warn others NOT TO EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL!!!
The owner that took my $410 and then caused me 3 weeks of grief is hchu304 from Irvine, CA. DO NOT CONDUCT ANY BUSINESS WITH HIM AS I CAN PROMISE YOU HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO CONDUCT BUSINESS WITH OTHERS... The rest of this post below will remain intact.
Surprisingly, I'll keep the name of the owner out of this series of PMs...but I'm so
FREAKIN' AMAZED
at the audacitiy of some folks that I just have to share these conversations with someone else. Basic setup here: As many know, I clear corners for Rick's Signature Accessories. I like to keep a spare set of headlights in stock (primarily to be prepared in the event of a problem during a customer's conversion, etc. -- and thankfully, I've yet to use them in that capacity after nearly 75 clearings
. I had had a set for "inventory"...but a couple folks on our boards recently "goofed"
their own attempt at clearing and each happened to need one and the other of my "inventory" to replace the one each of them damaged during their clearing effort. Yada...yada...yada, anyway, I needed to purchase a replacement set for inventory.
So I searched the boards for individuals that were selling their sets. Found a fellow. Struck a deal. That should have been that......riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight? Well, I'm here to say,
uh-uh...apparently it don't work that way. So here's my story about the lights that never came
(oh...and as of this writing, my money has yet to be returned either). I still want to have faith that this owner is "a nice enough guy" and just has a lot of crap going on in his life right now. But...and I'm SERIOUS here...BUT...he should never have advertised his desire to sell these if he wasn't going to be in the position to carry out the transaction in a timely basis. I've sold nearly 20 things over the last 2 weeks on eBAY and I am FASTIDIOUS about communicating with customers, packaging/shipping as soon as payment has arrived, etc. It is just my nature...so it wrecks my nerves to no end to see folks that think nothing of putting off the responsibility of fulfilling delivery for payment rendered
Anyway, I'm presenting this strictly as a quick copy/paste from PMing him...so you have to read from bottom-to-top in the rest of this initial post in order to follow the communication trail. Owner's name has been "xxxxxxx"d out to protect his anonymity (I'm still awaiting repayment...so I'm not out to attack...I just need to "vent" and our forums offers an easy opportunity to do that
). Okay...so here goes...

No xxxxxxx , you can understand that what I really want is my headlights. Besides, in your first PM to me you indicated that you had cancelled your PayPal account due to fraud. Lets agree to stay on target for shipping my headlights to me Monday. No real reason for a "(hopefully)" I would think. You have today and tomorrow to package them up...then ship them Monday morning through a UPS store, etc. Just package them up like I've requested and ship them to me. Its all I really ask.

Thought I made it clear at 11:07am Tuesday xxxxxxx ...so let me say it one more time. I want my money back. That is ALL I want back. Send it to me immediately. Do not delay. Do NOT suggest anything about your headlights. Send me back my money immediately. PayPal is about as IMMEDIATE as I could ask. Considering PayPal's fee, send me $420 via PayPal IMMEDIATELY and that will be that. Send payment to visionquest_1999@yahoo.com.
No need to continue with this back and forth stuff xxxxxxx . Just make me feel less anxious and send me my money back immediately.

Not sure which box it is in
Forget it xxxxxxx . Just PayPal (if your account is straight) or mail me a bank/cashier's check for $450 and let's be done with this. I need headlights, not excuses. I'll appreciate your sending me my money back immediately.
By the way, I appreciate that I originally sent you $410. You suggested the $450...that is entirely up to you. So if you are going the bank/cashier's check route, then $410 is fine to reimburse me what I gave you...I'm not trying to make anything off of this poor transaction. I just want my money back. If you intend on reimbursing me via PayPal, then (knowing that they take a fee out of the transaction amount), you need to provide enough of a transaction amount so that I receive my $410 back.
Let us now be clear, I don't want the headlights. I just want my payment returned to me...asap. As I begin investigating purchasing another set of headlights, I'll need that money to pay for them. So do not delay in repayment.
You can mail a bank/cashier's check to:
Dave Parker

Maidens, VA 23102
You can PayPal me $$$ via:
visionquest_1999@yahoo.com
Again, I'll thank you xxxxxxx to reimburse me immediately.

You had indicated in your prior e-mail that you would try to ship these Monday (8/11). It is now Friday (8/15) and I have not heard a peep. I realize you seem to be in the thrust of moving to a new apartment and that you don't have steady internet access. I also realize that I'm probably basically "talking to myself" for that very reason
.
But xxxxxxx , you have my money
. I have nothing
. I'm anxious. I'm a business man, and I put my money in your hands to provide me a product that I need to conduct daily business. I could have mailed that money to any of a few other owners that were selling their headlights at that same time. However, I placed my faith in your promise to sell your headlights to me. xxxxxxx , you did not advertise that you would be moving when you advertised the sale of your headlights. You did not advertise that you would like to keep the money...but that you'd ship the headlights when it was convenient for you. What you DID do is conduct a business transaction. You promised shipment of your headlights upon receipt of my payment. xxxxxx, I've kept up with my part of the deal in spades.
While I apologize for being direct about my concerns, I want you to appreciate that where I stand is where I stand on this matter (and my money). I know you will offer your undivided attention to this transaction immediately...or you may feel free to mail me back my check and I will find another owner to replenish my inventory.
Thank you,
Dave

Understandable. Just asking that you understand that I have cleared 4 sets of headlights for folks since Sunday...and if I make a boo-boo (never have yet
...but "if"...), I feel a LOT more comfortable in knowing I have a backup headlight or two to keep right on truckin'
.
Don't let that information cause you to do a quick pack job, etc. tho!...take your time on the packaging
.
Oh...and hope you're diggin' your new apartment
.
Thanks for the update.
Best Regards,
Dave

Thanks. I'm grabbing a check from my credit union momentarily. I'll PM again when I've mailed it.
Surprisingly
...I have one more request I think I forgot before. Please do NOT request a signature. I work 8-5 M-F and you have no idea how much of a pain it is for me to make arrangements to be at the house when UPS delivers. However, if there is no expectation of signature requirements, UPS leaves the package on my property juuuuuuuust fine.
Sound okay?
Thanks,
Dave

Sounds fine (dunno your name or I'd insert it here ___
)! You can ship the headlights to me via UPS Ground to the following address:
Dave Parker
1763 Fairgrounds Road
Maidens, VA 23102
As you may be familiar, it would be appreciated if you would insure the shipment for $400 as well. I'll send you a check for $410 to cover agreed cost plus insurance. Just need your name/addy PM'd back to me and I'll send a check today.
Do me one additional favor...packaging request...(that I've learned from the number of headlights I've cleared/shipped for Rick's Accessories...
Be sure that the headlamps are wrapped and taped up sufficiently so as to not allow shipping peanuts and/or peanut debris to invade the headlamp assemblies during shipment.
Hope that does not seem too bothersome of a request. Just that I've had a LOT of headlights arrive to me from customers with shipping peanut bits sifted into the headlight assemblies and they are a royal PITA to remove within a closed headlight assembly. Heating/opening headlights brings on its own anxiety with such bits inside as you don't want them to melt during the oven-bakin' process. I'm sure you understand.
Thanks,
Dave

- First wrap each headlamp assembly separately within a disposable trash bag.
- Subsequently, then wrap each headlamp assembly in a deliberate amount of "bubble wrap."
- Package the two separate headlamps into a large enough cardboard box, filled with enough shipping peanuts to keep the two units safely away from all sides...and each other...for shipment.

that sucks, hope it turns out ok for you ,. . and btw, . .his main excuse seemed to be that he didnt have internet at the moment (he mentioned it several times) but what does that have to do with sending something through UPS?
