I used to work for SBC, and the CS from India was an overnight thing. When SBC first started selling DSL (we had to sell 1 a month, now the goal is 10 a day), the CS was in the US and absolutely stunning, less than 15 seconds hold time, and very good service (which was needed 'cause the DSL sucked). However, as more people were needed, they outsourced them all, at the moment it's nearly impossible to speak to someone in the US.

I'll never give SBC another dollar of my money.

I was enjoying a big juicy hamburger. He didn't think that was very funny. I did.
That's because "Eric" was Hindu?

I would you rather spend $7 for a T-shirt made in China or $40 for the same T-shirt made in the US (as labor cost is so expensive).
Actually your Nike's are made in Asia for cheap and they are expensive as hell. So the one's that benifit are the company's not the buyer.

Besides cell centers in India, I hate those web designers/developers aka rent-a-coders from India who are undercutting industry prices. Everyday we get, "Why should we pay you $10,000 to design/develop/market our ecommerce website when we can hire an Indian to do the same work for $75."
You know what's nice? Undercutting people here slightly and using rent-a-coder to do the work.

You only do minor stuff and you get paid for hardly working.

We had a dicussion one afternoon in my Economy class about companies moving their tech centers to India. There was a short video clip about a credit company where all employees had to go through training to sound American and made up a work name.

That night, I received a call from "Christine" and she had a very heavy Indian accent. I started asking her more questions about her Americanization training more than she was talking about credit.

I think that there is a bit of double standards coming into play here. People demand lower costs (by going with the cheaper companies) but then they don't like the level of service that they get from the cheaper company. If you want your DSL/T-shirts, whatever, for less, then where do you think the savings are going to come from?

for the people who say the price is less expensive - sure by a couple of bucks BUT the ceos and cfo are still making far more then middle managers and the gap is is growing by the day. profits are though the roof - frankly i wouldn't mind paying a few extra dollars if they kept the call centers in the states

I don't think its as much about savings as it is about increasing profits.

Just look at the Dell business model, they can offer complete PC systems for $450-500 because they are assembled in Taiwan or someplace and their call centers are in other countries. I wouldn't say they have the best system, but it's good for the US consumer to be able to afford PCs for home/kids etc. Would you be able to buy the same system if it cost double the price? This
whole outsourcing issue is a double-edged sword. Some things make sense
to outsource, but not all blindly. Financial data management should never be outsourced (Banks etc). Development should be outsourced, but the analysis and design phases should be done by US engineers. Trained monkeys can write code from well defined specs.....
