Alright all you tech-heads and S2000 gurus, help me out here:
I bounced off the rev limiter for maybe 3/4sec when I got 2nd when I was going for 4th. I only let the clutch out for less than a second, but my friend said I probably snapped the rings, bent the valves and cracked the valve guides. He said I'm lucky I didn't drop the valve in the cylinder. What do you guys think?
I haven't driven it since it happened; I even had it towed (for $370!) to my house.
BTW, I searched for information but couldn't find a single thread on a mechanical overrev.
Thanks for all the help!

Which rev limiter are you talking about? There are 3 of them. There is the isothermic one, the hyperbaric one and the revometric one. If you bounced off the first two, you'll be fine.
"Maybe 3/4 of a second"? Can you be more specific? If it was 5/8 of a second, you'll be OK. If it was closer to 13/16 of second, you may be toast. If it was the latter then snapped rings, bent valves and cracked guides are the least of your worries. You may have convoluted the bearing member and even worse, the tappet journal is most likely pitted.
$$$$$$$$$ And pray that the rod sling sleeve was unburnished.
As long as the blinky light is stagnant, you could have driven it home. Paying $370.00 for a tow? That towing company reemed you a new one.
BTW, does it make a funny noise?

Also you need to check the johnson rod. Those have been known to crack after 1/2+ sec.

Sorry xviper, I only speak in decimals. My friend is the one who quoted me the time the clutch was in (he was riding shotgun), but he speaks in fractions so you can understand my confusion!
I just picked up my car from the shop this morning. It was in for a 60k service, but they also replaced the steering gear, differential, and the cylinder head. I think they also installed hardened gears in my transmission, but I'd have to check the repair order to be certain. Do you think any of that could be the cause of the problem? I forgot to mention it in my first post. It has nothing to do with the clutch so I figured it would just make everything more confusing.

usually the best thing to do in this circumstance is to buy a Toda motor. Surely you'll make 290 rwhp simply because the TODA RACING GODS have decreed it to be so. All you need to do is give them Lots of Money and you'll get a motor with a dyno chart that you can front to your homies... YES, YOU TOO CAN HAVE 290 RWHP with just the special Toda Aluminum cams with hydrostatically formed elastomeric cam lobes, and their new Titanium Mesh fiber 2x2 weave valve springs.

I guess you transported an LT5 in your engine and not an LS6 since that has a 7000 rpm limit.
