I know the Iphone is great, but spending $600 for a phone that only allows you to use ATT, which is also expensive and has horrible service, just not worth it.

Plus... for people that already have a phone (like me) and would like a device for emails and all internet essentials without being locked into the I-Phone craze, the Touch would be perfect with internet service.

What? Iphone is not $600 and it wasn't $600 when it 1st came out 2 years ago.

16GB Iphone is $299 considering what an Itouch cost it's just a little more for the phone capabilities. Service is really dependent on the user. I've had no problems and I worked in NYC for 12 years.

Do you have an iphone? If yes, cancel your contract with ATT and tell us how expensive the IPhone is. I'm just saying.

First of all the 16G iPhone costs $1,019.00 plus taxes in 2 years given the fact AT&T bends us over for the data plan higher than non- iPhone data plan with no streaming video / flash. Plus the cost of phone service for 24 months. Here in SoCal the service sucks zebra dlck compared to Verizon. 3G my a$$. I was with T-Mobile before, both companies use GSM tech and had I full internet / p0rn for $5.99 a month

Wont even get into calling their 3rd world call center asking for help

Its customer service beats Sprint, which arguably has the best data network.
have had pretty good luck with sprint so far. they've messed up once or twice, bt they're good about problem resolution.

When the phone first came out, it was $600 from what I remember. I remember when he bought the phone when it first came out, that's how much they charge. The phone just recently dropped down to $300 so suddenly.

Back on the original subject of the Itouch - it also does not have a real speaker so to convert it to a phone would be super expensive - adding a chip to connect to cell towers, adding a mic and speaker.

I'm not trying to convert it to a phone. All I'm saying is that the I-Pod Touch is everything an I-Phone is except you can't use it as a phone. So my question was... Why wouldn't Apple allow the Touch to be able to use ATT for internet service. It's pointless to have Apps for weather updates, maps, food search, gas station searches, etc since you can't access the internet from anywhere.

The Touch should come equipped with the capability to use ATT as an internet provider rather than relying strictly on local WiFi signals.

An iPod Touch that can use ATT for data is called an iPhone. You're basically saying that Apple simply should not make an iPod Touch. Which is an arguable point, but we'd have to see Apple's sales numbers to know for sure. iPod Touch commercials are pushing the device more as a mobile gaming/entertainment unit than anything else.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I was looking at it as more of a personal mini computer where you can access the internet where ever you need it.

My wife has an iPhone; it can do that. Plus, it makes calls. My iPod Touch does not do that or make calls.
