I wish I could get a silencer so I can kill without making much sound.

If you're going to be carrying a gun for personal defense, don't be cheap. If you think it's your life on the line, and it better be if you're planning to carry a firearm, then buy the best you can't afford. Period. Cheap, good looking and poserific have no place in self-defense.
...plus if you're going to use it for self defense I believe you should spend some time on the range every month. If you're not both able to use it and willing to use when need be, having a gun will actually be less safe than not having one!

Depends on what size you're looking for. For very small, either a Kel-Tec or snub nose revolver. For medium small, I'd be looking at the HK P2000 SK. It's a brand new firearm that was released less than 2 months ago. It all really depends on where you'll be putting it.

HK's are the "VW's" of the gun world. Affordable and good quality, they are well made and they have few user accesable parts. (plus I have one I'll sell ya, USP .45 full frame, variant 1 - $495).
Many people will argue that HKs demand a price premium that gets you nothing over other firearms. I still like my HK though..

I've NEVER had a misfire with my HK, and i have put all kinds of ammo through it.

You get what you pay for.

Yes, good point. Nothing like having some miscreant hurl you a beating with your own gun.

Here's an idea... use your fists, and live to fight another day
What's with Americans and guns??
Are you a cop? Are you robbing banks? What do you need a handgun for?
Before I get flamed... No, I'm not calling all Americans "gun-mongers" or anything, I just don't understand your culture's facination with weapons. Isn't your crime rate high enough already, why do you need more guns?
I read in another thread, what Assualt Rifles, and Military Weapons people wanted to buy, now that the ban has been lifted. How is it possibly a good idea to have these kinds of weapons laying around your house? I mean, are you planning on starting some guerilla warfare? Are you gonna take over a country? Are you going to hunt down Castro?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a whiny little Anti-violence protestor. I enjoy the hell out of a good hockey fight, or a boxing match. But why the need to carry guns? Are you trying to compensate for something?
Sorry man, but that's just not cool!

I'll tell ya why we need all the guns. We're gonna invade Canada!

Seriously though. As a gunowner myself I beleive it comes down to American's fierce love of independence. If scumbag crackhead criminal climbs in my bedroom window tonight I will escort him out with a .357 Magnum hollowpoint. I'm not gonna wait around for some police to show up to help me out. I'll be dead by then or my wife will be raped. Americans take care of their own. Or at least love the idea of doing that. I don't trust the local authorities to protect me. They simply don't have the resources to do that.

Since I live in the Socialist Republik of Kalifornia I cannot carry a gun but I do have several in accessible locations around my house. I gather you are not a gunowner from your post. If Joe Criminal kicks in the door tonight, what are you going to do? Throw a Molsons at him?

I hope you get licensed and obey all handgun laws before you go and get yourself into trouble.

I own 4 guns, there are around 11 in the house, and if a guy broke in I would 1. call the police 2. grab the closest thing that resembles a bat and finally 3. wait in a dark corner at the ready but more or less keeping my cover.
Getting shot by the intruder when I show my gun is not something I need in my life. Nor is a multi-decade prison term when I find out I just shot my brother.

If you are concerned about crackheads coming in move to the suburbs or get an alarm. Last I checked crackheads aren't too common in the burbs, nor do they continue to come in when the house is screaming with annoying sirens.
