What's with Americans and guns??
Are you a cop? Are you robbing banks? What do you need a handgun for?
Before I get flamed... No, I'm not calling all Americans "gun-mongers" or anything, I just don't understand your culture's facination with weapons. Isn't your crime rate high enough already, why do you need more guns?
I read in another thread, what Assualt Rifles, and Military Weapons people wanted to buy, now that the ban has been lifted. How is it possibly a good idea to have these kinds of weapons laying around your house? I mean, are you planning on starting some guerilla warfare? Are you gonna take over a country? Are you going to hunt down Castro?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a whiny little Anti-violence protestor. I enjoy the hell out of a good hockey fight, or a boxing match. But why the need to carry guns? Are you trying to compensate for something?
Sorry man, but that's just not cool!
the last time the "state" was entrusted to keep order, unarmed MILLIONS died.

A clip is NOT a magazine, I don't know of a handgun that uses clips. See: http://www.angelfire.com/art/enchanter/clip.html

Second why do you guys think Glock safety is such a joke? Do you now know the rules of gun safety? Particularly, keep your finger off the damn trigger till your ready to shoot.

Springfield XD-9 sub-compact. I have it and I love it...quite small, but it does the job quite nicely I feel. Plus it's quite affordable. Just my .02

My wife carries a Glock 17 (She's a state field agent). Personally, I can't stand that bulky ass thing. Steve is right, you do have to retrain yourself if you already shoot. It's like night and day when I go from my Bersa .380 to her Glock. Before I get flamed for the Bersa I want to say that I absolutely love that gun. Small, comfortable (at least for my hands), balanced (unlike the glock, IMO), and has all the features I like to have (safety lever, hammer, quick release slide). It best fits ME and MY shooting style

Godofthebolp (You'll have to explain the name to me one day )

Go up to Alexander's on Inkster and Michigan Ave. next to the bar on the corner (SE corner). Those guys really know their $hit and are trusted by a lot of the various local agencies (FBI, ATF, DEA). They also have a range in the basement. My family has been going to them for decades.

If it's for the home though...I highly recommend a short barrel pistol grip pump action 12 guage.

Not all Canadians are unarmed... nor do we all agree with the laws that our country has imposed. In fact with the restrictions of the "legal" guns, it's more likely the bad guys will have guns...

Sleeping soundly tonight with a Walther P99 not too far away.

An AR-15 is on the shopping list too - now that y'all got rid of the ban, I'm hoping prices will drop

[QUOTE=Ludedude,Sep 15 2004, 02:09 PM]SIG P226 or P229 in 9mm is a good gun that won't let you down when you need it.

I've got the 4" model of this pistol, but I bought mine before Springfield put their name on it. It used to be called the HS2000 and mine was made in Croatia. Not sure if they still are. Great gun. Feels good in your hand. It's ambidextrous and the trigger pull is one of the best I've felt. Very accurate and I don't think it's jammed on me once (and I've probably put about 600-700 rounds through it since I've owned it). At the time, the price was right. I took it out the door from a "gun and pawn" in FL for $330, w/tax, brand new, but they've gotten a bit more expensive now that Springfield has plastered their name all over it and the gun has won a few awards. I've got a $120 Tac-light on it now also. I figured it'd be hard enough to hit the broad side of a barn in a panic/self-defense type situation, nevermind hit something while it's dark. This'd probably blind them first. It's pretty damn bright.
