Default it's difficult going vegetarian

i'm on a vegetarian diet for the next 2 weeks, and boy has it been difficult - to not over-do the carbs and keep the protein up. i'm a big carnivore btw, and this vege stuff is not easy to do.

on a side note...i'm hungry all the time now.

any suggestions?

hmm... eat a lot of stuff that swell up once inside your stomach.
like... noodle... steamed white rice... tofu (don't really swell up but big volume helps)...

eat often with small amounts.

good luck, mingster!

Hell yeah it is difficult. I tried going vegetarian 4 times in my life. The first was right after the transition from high school senior to college freshman. It was easy quiting the meat and seafood products that the dorm served, but as far as my choices, I was only left with salads, some limited noodle choices, and cereal. I was back eating meat within 6 months.

The next few times, it was about the same thing. I think that the only place in America where it is easy going vegetarian is in Denver, CO.

There is so much choice at the grocery store, and when eating out. In fact, some places would give me crazy looks when I asked for them to add chicken to the meals.....Noodle and Company was one of my favorite eateries in Denver. Thank god they opened a few here in Illinois, albiet far away from my house....but well worth the drive.

There's really a lot of veggie stuff that's great - Von's has a "safeway select" veggie lasagne that we like better than regular (we're not vegetarian but choose many veggie dishes just because they're a good variety). Veggie burritos are usually great (they have zucchini, mushrooms, bean sprouts, rice, etc.) ... Morningstar makes veggie corn dogs that taste just like real ones (honest!) ... you can find veggie burgers that taste good (not meant to taste like hamburger, I think those are terrible) made out of fire roasted vegetables - top with cheese ... yum! Make sandwiches with tomato, cucumber, lettuce, jack cheese, cream cheese & sunflower seeds on multi-grain toast (sounds kinda gross but it's really tasty). Pad Thai is good (but lots of carbs). Bean & cheese burritos ...

Eating out veggie is a little harder, especially fast food. But don't worry, you'll make it!

dated a vegetarian for a while. i could take it for a couple weeks at a time, but then the carnivore would take over.
she ate a lot of tofu--in various ways that i couldn't even tell what it was. this is one of those journeys in life where a more experienced female comes in quite handy.

been vegetarian now since '95. Gave it up to keep my weight down in wrestling, and when the season was over, i never picked it up again. I'm a full vegetarian, I don't eat any meat or fish, but do eat eggs and cheese.

It's been really easy for me, hell i've heard one read of sinclair's "the jungle" will make you second guess meat for a while.

I don't eat healthy, so maybe that's why i don't have a problem. I never eat the stereotypical salads or tofu. mexican food, Italian food, chinese, indian food are very good to veggies. so grab a pizza and be happy.

I must admit that I do crave one piece of meet more than other, the McRib. I don't know why this MSG-laden piece of "meat" seems so good, but it does.

my suggestion:
baja fresh veggie burrito enchilada style. damn that's good.

The only challenge to a vegetarian diet is the mandatory requirement of creativity!

There are many products on the market now for vegeatrians and most of them taste really good. Keep several Veggie Burgers on hand for when your creativity is running low.

It's amazing how good vegetables can taste. Once you get in the groove it's easy. CAUTION! When you stop eating meat for a prolonged period, your body looses it's ability to digest it efficiently and you may end up like Mindcore's friend at Ryan's Steakhouse!!
