Off-topic Talk Where overpaid, underworked S2000 owners waste the worst part of their days before the drive home. This forum is for general chit chat and discussions not covered by the other off-topic forums.

It's "than", not "then" (pedantry)

Please, don't get me started. I guess the two most common mis-usages that come to mind are (1), the use of the word impact (noun) as a verb. "How will that impact them?" instead of "What kind of impact will that have on them?"
(2) The use of the comparative "more". For example, "He is one of the better hitters in the league.", instead of "He is one of the best hitters in the league."

Damn interesting discussion going on here boys
I wouldn't expect such intelligent exchanges on the other Honda sites.

Did I make any mistakes there?

I heard on NPR this morning that today is "International Literacy Day." They mentioned a study done that showed 25% of adult Californians are illiterate. Another interesting point was the confusion between information and knowledge leading to a decline in literacy skills, and an anthropological shift towards oratory knowledge above written knowledge because of said confusion.

This URL is very appropriate for this thread

Here is a thought - is a smiley face an appropriate sentance ending, or is a traditional punctuation mark still required?

It's those inane, stupid, buzz phrases which seem to come and go like fashion statements:-

"So and so ... will take this on board"......Aaagh!
"Can I float this across your pond?"........Yuk!
"What can we do to IMPACT on this situation?" Puke!!!

Whilst I do agree with the sentiments expressed in this thread , it would be a great pity if people ceased posting due to lack of confidence or to feeling intimidated by their poor word skills. This is a wonderful medium for communication, let's not make it too daunting.
