I have had these a few times too.. and they ing hurt.. like really really really hurt.. and im only 29 now..

I also have IBS, which doesn't affect me day to day, but i think it causes a slight chemical imbalance in my body, which in turn allows the stones to form.

I also get the pain if I drink more that a couple of pints of beer.. So i don't drink anymore, just smoke weed instead.

I have always drunk lots of water a day 3-4 pints of water + teas+coffees+other drinks..

but if you have had these.. you know what pain really is.. you just cannot stop squimming around, want to throw up.. I have found that a hot water bottle helps.. and smoking weed to to relax the kidneys a bit.

And its the way the damn thing sneeks up on you at like 4am too.

Stones:

Calcium oxalate(mono and dihydrate) 85% of all stones risk factors:dehydration, high oxalate diet, high sodium intake prevention: water water water low sodium diet low oxalate diet

Uric acid-risk factors: red meats, high protein diet, high uric acid levels, dehydration prevention: water water water decrease animal protein low sodium diet

Struvite-(magnesium-ammonium-phosphate) risk factors: UTI obesity

there are others....for you HIV people on Crixavan...this drug causes stones

slightly OT:
watch blood pressure. High pressure WILL destroy your kidneys.

I have no kidney function, but from unknown causes (probably a strep bacteria). Most people in my dialysis clinic had high blood pressure.

Not to get racial, but if you are black, you must be especially careful. there are plenty of younger black people on dialysis from high blood pressure. also, many blacks have a B blood type. the bad thing about that is the B population is that very few are organ donors (due usually to ignorance or misconception) whereas the A/O populations have a high percentage of donors. Thus, if you have a B blood type and have kidney failure, you will wait YEARS for a kidney. If you are A or O, you wait often less than a year.

I'll never forget how strict they were in navy boot camp about drinking massive amounts of water. They were very preventative because they didnt want you to be sick or in need of "outpatient" care when at sea. It worked cuz I was never healthier.

10 yrs later I drink at least 1 gallon of filtered H20 a day. More on a gym day. Its just habit.

I heard the chemicals and acids in soda really are horrible for your kidneys and digestive sys.
