I met my wife of 28 years while she was married, we were living together when her divorce came through. Her first marriage ended on the anniversary of their wedding.
There are a lot of people I know on S2ki with similar stories but they don't usually tell anyone. I've heard a few of them though, as they've shared them with me as I've had a very confusing last 7 months.

the "disrespect" (as you call it), is a function of western society....
it would never be an issue in many non-white marriages. immigrant women know their "place"....i know my wife does.

any responsible female - be it white, black or brown - will be a good mother.
but raj and i are both east indian....socially and culturally, there is a certain expectation of what the woman's role in a marriage is....and it's not one of subservience (before anyone gets all riled up). it's one of being a typical housewife....even though some women may work, they typically take care of the households and family's needs first and foremost.
in my case, my wife doesn't even work....she stays at home.
(come to think of it, i really don't know what she does all day
)
raj, we're the opposite....my wife's frugal and i prefer to live paycheque-to-paycheque
