Recommendations for laser eye surgeons in the bay
I am getting tired of wearing contacts and am ready to pull the trigger on laser eye surgery. Can anyone recommend some doctors I should consult with to have the procedure done?
I was told to check out ellis eye center in san jose... anyone here anything good or bad about them.

I am not in the area but have had laser eye surgery 3 times.
Let me give you a little warning and a little advice.
Unless it is custom mapped eye surgery it is next to useless. All they promise is to CHANGE your vision.
Regular lasik applies a generic map to your eye and it can change you from near sighted to far sighted. But astigmatism is the real gotcha there. It adds astigmatism to most people (remember it is a generic map). They can brag 20/20 vision but your vision can be blurrier than when you began. Why do you think I've had it 3 times.
I now can't see well enough to even wash myself in the shower. I have to wear glasses all the time except at a movie theatre. At a movie theatre you are not changing focal depths so you can get it focused in and keep it that way for the duration of the show.
I have not had the custom mapped lasik but it should be much better, of course the ultimate is the lens replacement.
Insist upon the laser blade. Sensation and healing is quite a bit better than with a traditional blade. I never really had pain but the regular blade left me with a sensation in the eyes for a few days longer. It's not quite like having dust in your eye and little bit more than just sleeps in your eye like you get in the morning. It is tough to remember not to rub your eye!
Also sit in the waiting room of the doctor's office and talk to people who have had it and are in for a check up. You will find most people are happy to have a change in vision but are dissatisfied that it isn't as good as they thought it would be. It is not a cure all and may not negate your need for contacts or glasses. The people who are the most happy are the ones that had coke bottle thick glasses and now they can wear regular glasses.
The first day I had mine the machine needed calibration and over 30 people had to have theirs redone.
Check the BBB and the medical boards. The guys who advertise the most are probably the worst ones to go to. They run cattle calls and you never get to talk to the doc.
