My other option for about a $200 more would be the Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 40" LCD. That's LCD and 10"s smaller than the DLP Samsung. Both are 1080p

IMHO, no.

Better than DLP in every way....

etc, etc, etc. $1500 for a DLP IMHO is a rip. If you are going that route, just get a projector.
those are smaller with lower resolution. If someone wants a big TV with high resolution (1080p) and a reasonable price tag, DLP is the way to go.

And ridiculous power consumption. If you have old wiring in your house good luck. LCD is MUCH better in this arena. I just don't get the need for Plasma.

If PQ really is your #1 priority, none of the technologies listed will provide the best. For that you have to go to CRT (Direct or Projection).
I fully agree with you there. 2x-4x higher power consumption.

SED (whenever it's going to come) should have very good picture quality. We'll see how that goes.

you can get a commercial monitor. It is just a plasma with no features...just a display.
yup....that's what i did.

not sure what you mean about "no features" though.

tv tuner & speakers I guess.. possibly no hdcp compliance. Upside is they generally come with a lot of other inputs. DVI, vga, component, etc

thanks for the good info guys. Still lost but looking for a 35-40 inch LCD. I guess I need to read CR.

What website do you guys order from. I order from onecall.com and like their quality service and good(not great) prices.

MDX,

we have a couple of dell's between my son's room (32") and daughter's room (37")....and to be honest, i can't imagine a better LCD picture.

and they are DIRT cheap.

many times we'll put the kids to bed on our bed and watch a late night movie on my daughter's 37" over the 60" plasma in our family room....that and being able to watch in bed with my wife helps.

it's a "Sony KDS-50A2000 Grand WEGA 50" SXRD 1080p Rear Projection HDTV"

i would give up a little PQ for the sake of getting a flat panel.
