You guys are too funny. I am buying this for my Father In Law.

SO, if you were going to buy a 50" plasma which one would you buy.

A. Pioneer 50" PDP5070HD.
B. Panasonic 60u.
C. Panasonic 600u.

Also, does the amount of space available for the T.V. matter? My F-I-L's entertainment center has exactly 50" of space to put a T.V. in. Would that generate too much heat which may lead to less reliability.

TIA.
Bump

Another thing, quit going to shitty Wal-mart type stores to buy your electronics, i.e. Best Buy/Circuit City. You can do as well or better price-wise at a local home theatre store if you do your homework and look at the REAL options on the market, not just the mass produced crap they sell at the chain discount stores.

Wow, sounds like some great technology.

I'm not going to get into a pissing contest, but I did a shitload of research, talked to a lot of sales techs (not from Best Buy/Circuit City, but real home theatre stores) and chose the best value out there right now.

57831 Mitsubishi DLP

I didn't need a wall-mounted plasma and I'm not a huge fan of LCD, except on my sports watch. To each their own though, but to say the newest DLP's aren't any good is just ignorant.
Like Richard Hammond said on Top Gear regarding 911s and Boxters....

"There is one reason you buy a DLP......because you cant afford a plasma. Thats it."

Incubus...I dont understand your theory/logic....

You say your want a good HDTV, then you say you might not even upgrade to digital cable/satellite....makes no sense.

Moreover, plasmas are SO CHEAP now, I dont know why anyone would buy anything else. You can get a top shelf plasma for 1000-1500 dollars.

This will be my last post here, as we have too many know it all's. QUICKAG apparently did research, where some "pro" told him DLP is better than plasma. This makes his research top notch and all the sudden makes him an expert. Buy what you want. Buying a DLP with the TVs we have today is like buying a pentium II.

Good luck.

I really didn't want this to fall into a pissing contest, but I can assure you I can afford basically whatever TV I want and the 57831 is significant more than 1000-1500 bucks. I didn't want to spend big $$$$$ on a thin plasma because the layout of my TV room didn't necessitate the need for a 'small' TV.

Please look at a 57831 or 65831 picture before talking shit about DLP's. It has the new gen screen, electronics, and 180 watt bulb. The picture is in the top couple on the market right now. The contrasts, brightness, and clarity just blow you away.

My wife like the 'prettiness' of the thin plasma shell, but that was about it. Not to mention, the new model 831's have a very thin black surround and a gloss black finish at the base. It looks classy.

Any TV that SUPPOSEDLY requires a ridiculous break-in or can easily have screen burn-in isn't a TV that I want.

FINALLY, I NEVER said the DLP is BETTER than plasma, I just wanted to assure the haters out there the better DLP models are far from shit. Do research on the boards and go to REAL stores and ask around before talking smack.

It wasnt me who said DLPs are shit. If you took Econ 101, you would know that they have no place in the marketplace....

They are as expensive as a plasma, with inferior picture quality. I never said BAD. Simple economics make DLPs "bad." This is the reason why I advised people to get a plasma. It is the most efficient tv technology today, and QUICKLY became the cheapest.

If product A is superior to product B, and less expensive than product B, what does that make product B?

They arent, but they are cheaper than LCDs (plasmas)....and a "good" DLP is almost the same price as a plasma. IMHO, the ONLY reason to get DLP is if you want a HUGE screen (60"+)...but then, Id just get a projector.

Probably won't go HD unless F1 goes there first.
You my friend lost out BIG TIME. Yesterday, HDNET had the Race of Champions LIVE. Yes...LIVE. They had the Renault F1 car on the circuit and it was AMAZING. Heikki was piloting the car. 3 HOURS of top quality racing action in HD. It was well worth the measly addl $7/month for this programming alone.

I disagree with the picture quality. I would put my DLP against ANY plasma under $8k in picture quality. Additionally, I don't have to worry about playing PS3 or X360 on my DLP versus a plasma or LCD.

Anyway, to each their own. I'm going to bow out of this thread. Everyone can and should buy what they want, but try not to disrespect other people's opinions, particularly informed opinions.

One final thing. Verizon FIOS kicks a**. If your area offers FIOS, get it.
