Well, I really liked the look of a Plasma Samsung I went and looked at today, but I do plan to play a lot of Video games so I guess Plasma is out. I'm left with LCD or DLP. Brands I like are Sony, Samsung, Pioneer and a few others. I found a Samsung 50" DLP with 1080P for about $1500. Would you say that's pretty solid buy?
Don't let anyone tell you not to get something you know you'll like. I agree that DLP may not be as good as Plasma or LCD, but I'm going to get a DLP soon anyway.

Here's what I'm looking at.

Toshiba DLP Free shipping now.

If I can't see a difference in quality, and if I'm not getting HD for a while, then I don't need to spend the extra $ on Plasma.

If you need the screen to be bigger than 42", then they've still got some good prices.

Not to me, but that's only because I don't need to have a plasma tv. If it's plasma or nothing, then I don't even know.

I was curious in terms of the brand, size, and price in relation to other plasmas. It's discounted over 1000 bucks!

^ not from me....it's not a set i would ever look at.

i would give up a little PQ for the sake of getting a flat panel.
so the picture quality of that may be higher than that of a flat panel? i don't think my parents care too much about space, as right now they have a 32" tube tv in the corner of the room.

I wouldn't shell out that kind of money for anything with a native resolution less than 1920x1080.

Check out Westinghouse's 1080P line of monitors. But please note they do not come with TV tuners, this allows them to keep the cost low.

I followed the flat screen reviews online, thru Consumer Reports, etc and two things stood out. One was that Pioneer and Panasonic were almost always the two winners with Pioneer being number one but quite a bit more expensive than the Panasonic . Panasonic makes their own plasmas so they are not somebody elses technology. Second was that for watching movies at night the plasma was the choice while tv watching during the day they say the LCD was better - Take your pick there.
I also noticed that Sony suppossedly pulled out all the stops to make that 40 inch Bravia to be the best LCD available.
So for me if you pick the Pioneer or Panasonic plasmas or the SONY 40 in LCD I do not think you can go wrong.

Stay away from DLP, it's nothing but a tiny LCD projected on a screen.

Plasma is WAY better than LCD, especially in HD but LCDs aren't bad as long as you aren't too close. I have both a Panasonic 42" Plasma and a Viewsonic 32" LCD and they are both good but the plasma is more, way more.

I've never had any problems using my PS2 with my plasma. My plasma is a commercial monitor, not a TV. Check out VisualApex. They sell the commercial stuff and at really good prices. They know their stuff. Google for it.

Try this: http://www.visualapex.com/plasma/Plasma_de...K&MFR=Panasonic

Panasonic 50" Plasma for $1700. The 42 is $1025. How can you beat that?
