I loved the movie. I think the makers did a very good job with such a difficult source. I'm entirely looking forward to the next two.

I read the books back in the sixth or seventh grade, so I don't remember them too well. I don't remember if this would go against the book or not, but it would have been nice to see a bit more flash when it came to battle magic. Bright lights, colors, that sort of thing. Two wizards swinging their staffs and knocking each other down was a bit, well... plain. *shrug* The character development was a little lacking too, IMO. I'm not sure how that could have been done better, though. And I don't understand why they included the scene with the tentacle thingy. Didn't serve a purpose to me.

Bilbo was not played by Joe Pesci but the actor from the movie "From Hell" he played the doctor who did all the gruesome Hooker slayer "Jack the Ripper".

Well, if the monster was not hindering their exit from the mines of Moria then they would have chosen a different route since they found out the the orcs had invaded and killed the dwarfs that built and inhabitted the mines. The fellowship was exiting the mines when the tentacle beast drove them deeper into it.

Ian Holms played Bilbo Baggins he also played a lot of more serious roles in serveral movies however he hardly ever is the lead actor in any of his films, but a very accomplished actor none the less due to various oscar nominations, golden globes, etc...

I just saw the movie yesterday and I loved it. Fantastic. Magnificent. I can see where some people would have serious problems with this type of movie, but for most people that know what they are getting into, I think they will enjoy it. I hope this movie breaks alot of box office records - I really hope that it has a longevity and worldwide take that will crush that damn 'Titanic'. This probably has no chance of happening, but this is a much more deserving movie imho. I went to the matinee show for $4.75 (what a bargain) and would pay full fare to see it many more times! And I am going to because I can't wait for The Two Towers.

My only problem with the movie was that it was overly melodramatic for me at times, especially towards the end. Everybody all chummy chummy huggy huggy baring their souls kind of thing. Blech. Just a minor quibble. To their credit, I guess it is really really difficult keeping people's attention for 3 hours without wearing them out or boring them.

I read The Hobbit many times, but never got through the Lord of the Rings Books. Hobbit set me up very well for this movie, I recommend all of you read it, it is a fairly short read. You might instead watch the animated movie if you don't like reading.
