Ian Holm played Bilbo Baggins in The Fellowship of the Ring. He is well known not only for his dramatic roles like Chariots of Fire, and The Sweet Hereafter, but for many sci fi and fantasy films. He played the android Ash in the original Alien, Sam Lowry's boss Mr. Kurtzmann in Brazil, and Napoleon in Time Bandits. From Hell was an annoying mess.

Yes, Aaliyah was cast in the Matrix sequel entitled The Matrix Reloaded. I think she had not completed her shooting for the film, and the release date has been moved to 2003.
