That was intense. Dumb 8 month hiatus.

Great ending. . .but of course it asks more questions than it answers.

Great episode, though I'm definitely just as confused as ever.

1) If the Jack "flashback" was actually a flash forward, why was he talking like his father was still alive?

2) Why didn't Charlie close the hatch in the Looking Glass from *outside* the room that was about to be flooded? I might buy that he thought there wasn't time to get out before the grenade blew (though there was), but even if that's the case, then...

3) Why didn't Charlie attempt to swim out the window that got blown out? It certainly appeared big enough to fit through. Could have at least tried. I'm actually very sad to see him go...the last several episodes really showcased his character's coming to peace with his fate, and Dominic Monaghan portrayed the process excellently.

Of course, I have tons of questions about who Naomi was, who was in the casket, why it would make Jack try to commit suicide, etc. etc. Guess I'll have to wait until next season like everyone else .

Another interesting thought my fiance had:

At the end of the season 2 finale, it showed a guy who looked exactly like Jack with a beard in a submarine, or boat or something, looking for the island.

She thinks, and I agree, that it was another look at the future. Jack is going to try and get back on the island.

My guess about who was in the casket: Sawyer. No one showed up to the funeral, and Jack asked Kate why she didn't go to it. That's my guess!

So, does it seem like maybe the next half of the lost story will take place OFF of the island? Will they get "rescued" only to find troubles in their future lives? Not sure, but I hope not. That would be lame.

Who's in the coffin?

Jack had come to be despondent over the fact that he's left the island. He now knows that leaving the island has ruined his life and the life of John Locke. Locke wanted to stay, Jack didn't. Locke was right and John was wrong. So when he saw in the paper that John Locke had died and likely in poverty judging by the area of the funeral home, it was too much for Jack and he decided to end it.

Why? By the reasoning given (none) it could have been anyone except Jack and Kate.

1 Good point and made me wonder. Don't forget that there were *2* present tense (or near present) references. The comment in the hall about his dad in his office and the prescription.

2) & 3) Yeah... suspending my disbelief there. The answer to both is, "because then he wouldn't have died.

good question. maybe he was just really messed up from the oxycodone (or whatever it was) and wished dad was still around. or...he was despressed and had a beard at some point before *and* after the island...haha j/k.

the locking bar thing was on the inside. so the rushing water would've blown the door open. but...there were air tanks, right? it would've taken quite a while for the water to fill up that whole inside area, i think they would've had enough time to put on tanks and swim out...

Of course, I have tons of questions about who Naomi was, who was in the casket, why it would make Jack try to commit suicide, etc. etc. Guess I'll have to wait until next season like everyone else .
me too!

the last few episodes were really good. i thought the whole last season really sucked until then. hopefully the remaining seasons will keep the same track.

I like this theory.

And I think you're right about Charlie as well. I forgot that the rest of Desmond's vision was Claire & Aaron getting rescued after Charlie's death. Therefore Charlie chose to sacrifice himself, even though he may have been able to survive.

I have to give mad kudos to the show's creators for the powerful scene of Charlie frantically writing a last message on his palm, looking Desmond in the eyes, then pushing back from the window, crossing himself, and accepting his fate. Great stuff.

By the way, I'm still annoyed that Michael and Walt did not appear at all in this season. I think it's pretty clear (yeah, like anything in this show is clear) that Locke was either hallucinating, or (more likely, IMO) it was actually Smokey taking the form of Walt. So WTF happened to them when they left the island!?

Great question about what happened to W and M. I haven't given it much thought but there is potentially a pretty interesting story there.

OH! Here's a question that I had last night and forgot 'til now. How come Jin couldn't explode the dynomite? He was a CRACK shot as witnessed by him shooting a ton of guys right in the neck.

Was something afoot?
