I drank red label at a party last weekend. It was straight, on the rocks. It seemed like I was drinking smoke. Would I enjoy Blue Label more?
Also jw is a blend. Try some single malts too.
Yeah Red Label should never be consumed without a mixer (it's quite good with ginger ale). I actually like green quite a bit...kind of a different flavor to it. It's also a blend made entirely with single malts (no grain spirits), which I believe is unique among blended scotch whiskies. Gold doesn't have much to it, IMO.
St4rk, you would definitely enjoy Blue Label more, but I don't think it's worth the $200+ price tag.

Jw red is like kerosene. Start with jw black then gold then go to blue. Sample different medium to high end scotches to train your palate. Jw green is nasty though IMO.

I liked JW green, more so than black. Maybe even more than gold imho.
Macallan is a nice Speyside single malt. I think a better Speyside is Balvenie 12 year "Double Wood" or the 15 year "Single Barrel". I actually prefer the cheaper 12 year "Double Wood" slightly. Dalwhinnie is a nice inexpensive Highland single malt. My personal favorite at the moment is Talisker 18 from the Isle Of Skye. It has a strong rich flavor without being overpowering. I steer clear if Isle Of Islay single malts like Lagavulin 16. The peet smell and taste of Islay stlye single malts is too overpowering for me and Lagavulin is the most intense example I've run across. I think you could duplicate the flavor and smell by filling a highball glass with a handful of peat moss from Home Depot, lighting it on fire for a few seconds, and then dousing the flames with some Dalwhinnie. Now drink up. That's the Islay style. Enjoy the tasting.
