Madonna pleas for peace
In LA last night Madonna made a plea for peace and for President Bush to practice restraint.
When will these people learn they are entertainers and should stay out of poilitics
Oh well there goes another career.
IMO of course!

They are all citizens too with a right to an opinion. If someone happens to be listening, so be it. How does the fact that they are entertainers make their opinions worth less as Americans?
We've seen loooooots of people give their opinions in the media lately, and I haven't seen anyone say "when will those accountants learn that they aren't politicians?"
Actually, from what's said here, I agree with Madonna in hoping that Bush does practice restraint... restraint in only bombing known terrorist quarters and not the civilian population. As tempting as it is to make all of Afghanistan a crater, I hope that we are all a little more cognizant of the innocents there too...

Sondra,
Let's just say that I wouldn't take to heart anything Madona has to say. Her view point of current political situations is about as restrained as her actions with the press and her own unrestrained view point on music as well as sex in front of the media. This is like the pot calling the kettle black. IMHO! Yes she is entitled to her view point but it just doesn't hold to much weight considering her personal lifestyle.

If I had my choice of anyone in the media and George Bush, I'd trust and take him over any of them! This as far as this dicussion on my part is going to go.

lvs2k: I'm about as impressed with Madonna's political/humanitarian acumen as I am Barbra Streisand's
charlie: ..... and lets not forget Jane Fonda
Charlie and lvs2k, I am with you guys on this one all the way. The entertainers need to stick to scripts written for them. Also if an entertain says something in public like this it is not just an opion, IMO, because of the emphasis placed on the individual.
Maybe we should remind people how many American POWs lost their lives in Vietnam because of Ms Fonda. Someone, IMO, who is one of the lowest life forms that walks on the earth.
My $.02. That is all I will say on this subject. I think it is enough.

I agree with you guys. To my life, Madonna and her cronies in Hollywood are the epitome of irrelevance. A bunch of loud mouthed, self important, and deeply disturbed hypocrites...(does that sound harsh?) IMO, of course...
I think it's shameful that America is so enamored with people like this...who gives a rip what she thinks about this. It's not as if her position in pop culture gives her any special insight to ANYTHING that is going on...people like this use their positions to advance their political views, which sucks because the reason why they are popular has NOTHING to do with politics...yet, for some odd reason, people listen to them.
Did anyone see Babs Streisand during the presidential election talking at a press conference about politics? After she was done reading her scripted propaganda-esque blather, she took questions from the crowd that was, for some reason, gathered to hear whatever bullshit she was there to talk about. Well, what followed was an absolutely embarrasing display of some deeply profound ignorance. I wish I could find that press conference on tape somehow, it was truly fascinating...and it shows precislely why these loons need not be listened to when they are talking about politics...
Of course, they are entitled to their opinion...it's just a shame that people listen to these people as if they are some kind of expert...
These people need to stick to singing and dancing...! For me, since this is a celebrity culture, ignoring these buffoons is the only way around stupid crap like this. It's too bad the media and much of America are so fascinated by these empty headed two-bit dolts...
Sondra, it would be against the international guidlines of war to haphazardly bomb Afghanistan. I believe it was the Geneva Convention that set forth rules for contemporary combat, I need to look more into that, but I seem to recall that's what it's for Military targets and government-related buildings and strongholds are the only allowable targets in war...I may have left out a couple types of things, but random bombing isn't allowed. It may happen, but it's not sanctioned.

I'm sorry to have offended anyone, but it seems, from what I've read here that Madonna said, she is offering a positive message to some people who probably need to hear just such a thing. I didn't read or hear the rest, so if the rest of her message was bad, I can't comment on that.
As for Jane Fonda, I hold her in the same contempt for her remarks on Vietnam as most do.
I think most people in the entertainment industry are, at the moment, just trying to comfort people because people, some of them now gone, are what made them who they are. That was my only real point, sorry if I got anyone bent.
