there is an airline company (sorry, not sure which one, but i'm sure someone here will know) that makes an obese person buy two seats, the second one at a discount from my understanding. the obese community tried to sue for this, saying it was unfair, but i disagree with that. if they are large, for whatever reason (genetic, excessive eating), then i'm sorry, but they must be fair to OTHERS too. i really hate saying this, b/c i feel a bit bad, but that is my honest opinion.

can i complain, hypothetically, if i was a midget and couldn't see the movie that they were playing? just a thought.

someone will always complain that things are unfair to them. i think MOST, not all of them, are just finding reasons to b*tch about their life and to blame others for their unhappy situation, whatever it may be.

Suing over that is ridiculous, however, obese passengers should have to buy two seats. Why should I be less comfortable because of an overweight person sitting next to me?

i also agere that lawsuits are not the way, the airlines should act on this themselves.

i believe southwest is the progressive firm that is protecting it's passengers rights.

So you don't think this indicates a genetic conponent? Or do you just think that Asians have more McDonalds control.

American kids are taller and have bigger feet. Does this mean they should have to pay for extra legroom?

Truth is, everyone used to fit in airline seats but the seats and distances have gotten smaller and smaller. Is that the passengers fault? Or is it just an attempt -- by the airlines to cram more cattle in the boxcar? I'm glad that this guy was able to see who was responsible for his problem (the airline.)

In another age, the Victorian era, thin people were thought to be weak, sickly, weak-willed and sneaky. They were routinely discriminated against, teased, and bullied. That was a moronic generalization too!

I agree with the guy. I don't think lawsuits are necessary, but maybe it will shed some light on this problem. This may sound bad, but it sucks being in that situation. I have to travel a lot for my job. I was flying almost every week for a while. I've been in this situation twice and it's not very fun. Once, the 'obese person' got to the seat before me and moved the arm rest up. I couldn't put it down, so I was stuck being mushed up next to her. I was almost sick. I didn't have the nerve to say anything to her. I spent the whole flight trying not to throw up. It was disgusting to be smushed up against this lady's fat. I know this sounds heartless and mean, but it really sucked. The airlines should give obese ppl first class seats, or two seats. The airlines need to find an answer to this problem....

on small prop planes they seat you by your body weight, but that's for balance reasons not so much for comfort

I like what this guy is doing and I like that southwest is charging fatties for two seats.

I don't like that the airlines are irresponsible and inconsiderate and forcing the man to go the legal route. Once again, corporations ruining the quality of life for us all.

I hope this guy wins his lawsuit. If you spend a few hundred bucks for a small seat on a plane for a few hours, your space should not be invaded. Southwest has a unique situation in that it does not reserve seats. Only if the fight is fully booked, the overweight passenger may be required to pay for an extra seat. Has SW been sued yet?

Very good point... very good!
