Man Sues For Having To Sit Next To Obese Passenger
I had this happen once. I was in the middle seat and felt something rubbing my shoulder, so I look and see its this dudes belly! He was putting his luggage in the overhead bin and I was getting flabbed!
Anyway he attempts to sit in the isle seat. I am nearly in the lap of my friend now in the window seat. I am in shock I can't even think of anything to say. His ass wouldn't fit between the armrests! Couldn't get his but to hit the pad.
All I can think of is 4 hours like this.... NO WAY! So my buddy said "hey were in an exit row and your going to be blocking the emergency exit." Absolutly true. So off he goes to find someone else to make miserable.
I'm sorry but there should be a thing just like the one for your carry on bags. If your ass don't fit between these two whatevers your going to have to buy another seat! Don't care if its genetic or environmental thats just being reasonable.
As far as suing. I hope the airlines get the message. Its bad enough already with coach syndrome.

Sorry to say this, but suing has become the American way. Come on, a guy sues fast food chains because they tempted him to eat unhealthy food? What next? Maybe we should sue the original poster for posting this thread!
What has this world come to?

Hello. Genetics causes lots of things: intelligence, strength, shoe size, depression, height, lifespan, cancer, eye color, baldness, and yes, weight. Does it cause morbid obesity, maybe not. But I'd defy any skinny person to decide to become fat. It won't work.
It's easy to blame your size on your efforts. It's harder to gauge how much effort is required. Genetics play a large role in whether you store fat or burn it. And that differs from person to person. So it may well be that another person could make the same effort as you and not see the same results.
It is a vast (and incorrect) oversimplification to say that genetics proves that we all have the same physical abilities and opportunities.
I don't like sitting next to a large person any more than anyone else. Does it make me "puke?" No, I'm not quite that narcissitic. I also don't like sitting behind someone who puts their seat back because it pushes against my long legs. But it is not their fault. The airlines make reclining seats. I also don't like the food or that the restrooms are too short to stand up in. I don't like that there is pee all over the bathroom. But the airline makes the experience. Not the passengers.
So I return to my original point: This problem did not exist to any large degree before the airlines reduced space per passenger. They are the party at fault.

I find this really funny ! I am used to seeing this kind of debate on flyertalk Generally I would say that the coach seats are wider than the S2000 seats, so most folks here are gonna be the victim of the large traveller, not the other way around. Airline seats have not changed much in width since the advent of the jet age, although the pitch (the amount of cabin space for each row) varies a lot. If you are tall, fly AA (or UA in economy plus if you are eligible) or try for an exit row. If you are wide, you are better off in an Airbus A319, A320 or A321 for a single aisle than a Boeing or a McDonald Douglas aircraft.
If it happens to you
, do something before you leave the gate. Get up and ask the flight attendant to be reseated, to reseat the large person, or ask to take another flight if you are willing. Airlines that have a policy on this matter should have it posted in their Contract of Carriage, posted on their web site.

Sorry folks, I agree. I fly every week and I've had to stand during flights because an individual has consumed half of my seat. Although I don't fault the individual, I think the airlines should address this issue. Maybe it
have a look at the eastern european chicks, now goddamn, they were isolated from mcD's and all the greasy crap for so long and them czech chicks r pretty fine.
it seems that a lot of the european women r slim, trim, taught and terrrific because they have not been exposed to crud. also, because of their colder climate, it seems to preserve their skin much better so they look younger, unlike women from california or even from australia where mid 20's looks like they were beaten up bad by over exposure.
mmmmmm....swedish babes......
