Animals die for a purpose everyday (aka farmer john killing cows which feed our population with protein). What Vick did was senseless cruel slaughter. He disposed of them simply because he was not satisfied with how they lived and the manner in which he killed them was tortureous. Why do you think the electric chair has been banned in pretty much every state (minus texas). It was deemed to cruel of a way to die. If he had simply shot the dogs in the head and not participated in acts of prehistoric brutality, I don't think we would see as much of his crucifiction as we are seeing now.
I think Texas is using lethal injection too nowadays. They just executed some guy last week via lethal injection.
