Michael Vick
I have not read through the whole thread but am throwing in my $.02.
Micheal Vick is getting what he deserves. He committed crimes, he pays the price. People in this country should not be above the laws set no matter how much celebrity or money they have. Not Vick, not OJ, not Paris Hilton, not the bald Tyco douchebag. Nobody. I don't care if my taxes pay to lock up millionaires, thats fine with me.
As far as people who think "they are just dogs, big deal" are the ones I have the most problem with. I am guessing most have never owned a dog, and if they did were not that kind to it. Dogs like many animals, are highly intelligent and sensitive. They are also the most friendly and loyal beasts you will ever find. To take a creation such as that and be cruel to it blows the imagination.
Some argue, "Yeah but we are talking about a human being over an animal." This distorts the question. It is not a situation where the survival of the human depends on a sacrifice by the animal. It is a case where cruelty to the animal serves the whim of the deranged human. If it is the choice between an innocent dog and a cruel person, I'll take the dogs rights any day.
It reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw. It read "The more people I meet, the more I like my dog."

Here's an idea, have a problem with the fact that (human) murderers will sometimes receive a lesser sentence than this?
Whats the big deal? He still will come out after a short stay in a club fed and be a millionaire. Why feel sorry for him? I don't worship athletes and I don't understand while some feel if he does some jail time the world is losing some great gift.

I don't know where you get this. The average amount of time served for murder in this country is seven years. He got 23 months and can still get time off for good behavior.

^ WTF does that have to do with anything?
It is a fact that there are isolated cases where people have received (what I believe) are drastically short sentences for taking another persons like. The point is more that there are worse crimes committed by humans towards others that receive less penalty than Vick has so far. And we haven't even seen what additional penalties there may be with the remaining charges.
Again, it's not that he's receiving too much, it's that the others often receive too little. Funny thing is, people seem to make the biggest stink when the result is excessive, as opposed to insufficient or not enough.
I just saw a short clip on TV of the dozens of people, including children, out to support Vick. I want to know what the hell those people and parents are thinking. Vick is a piece of trash with a history of crime and has never done anything to deserve admiration of his character or to lead people to believe he is a strong moral role model. He has talent and got rich because of it.
It just goes against the silly claim/excuse that crime and drug-ridden communities are in that condition because of a lack of money. Time and again we see people come out of those communities into fame and fortune and continue to live lives of criminal activity.
[QUOTE=soul_fly,Dec 11 2007, 04:52 PM] i don't think that it's a moot point because it's something that he was coerced into confessing, subsequently smearing his public persona. nobody actually talks about what he was officially charged for, you think peta cares about the travel act?
you can say what you wanna say about hunting, fishing, or whatever.
